MLS Game Summary - Los Angeles at Chicago

Final Score: Los Angeles 1 - Chicago 3

Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Fire snapped a two-game losing streak by topping the Los Angeles Galaxy, 3-1, at Toyota Park in Major League Soccer action on Thursday night.

Chris Rolfe scored two goals while Cuauhtemoc Blanco added a goal and an assist to lead Chicago to the victory.

With the win the Fire (12-9-5) move six points clear of the New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference table, further solidifying their spot in third place with four games to go in the regular season.

The Galaxy (7-11-8) loss means the chances of the league's most popular club making the playoffs are slim after falling deeper into the Western Conference basement.

Rolfe got things started early, scoring the game's first goal in the 13th minute. He started the play by picking up a loose ball in the offensive third before being knocked off his feet. He responded by getting up, taking a back pass from John Thorrington and dribbling through three defenders before firing a shot through the legs of another, just inside the far post to make it 1-0.

The Galaxy answered before the break, however, when Landon Donovan found Chris Klein making an overlapping run on the right wing. Klein then crossed to Eddie Lewis, who got a foot on the ball from the top of the six-yard box to knock it home for his first goal of the season.

The Fire took their second lead of the game in the 57th minute when Blanco scored his first goal in 17 games after a defensive blunder by the Galaxy. Rolfe started the play by firing a ball into space in the offensive third to the onrushing Blanco. With defender Troy Roberts looking like he had a bead on the ball, Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Wicks came 35 yards out and collided with him, knocking both Galaxy players out of the play. Blanco easily collected the loose ball and fired into the open net for his fifth goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later Rolfe put the nail in the Los Angeles' coffin after a buildup that started with Blanco. The former Mexican international played a cheeky back-heel to left back Gonzalo Segares at midfield before the defender fired a diagonal ball behind the defense to an onrushing Rolfe. Rolfe made no mistake on the chance, firing a shot off Wicks' hands and into the back of the net for his second goal of the game and sixth of the season.

Chicago will try to further solidify its playoff spot when it travels to Kansas City on Oct. 5 for its next league fixture while the Galaxy will try to climb back into the playoff race when they travel to Columbus a day earlier.
