MLS Game Summary - Toronto FC at New England

Final Score: Toronto FC 1 - New England 2

Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - Steve Ralston scored two unassisted goals to lead the New England Revolution to a 2-1 win over Toronto FC on Saturday night in Major League Soccer.

Ralston scored in the 12th and 59th minutes, with both goals coming on rebounds after teammates hit the post and crossbar. Ralston's six goals through just 16 games is one shy of his career high of seven, which he's scored three times.

New England (9-4-3) extended its home unbeaten run to five games and maintained its four point lead in the Eastern Conference over the Columbus Crew. The Crew defeated the Colorado Rapids, 2-1, on Saturday.

Toronto FC (6-5-3) got its goal from Maurice Edu in the 78th minute, but failed to complete the comeback to drop to 1-5 on the road this year. TFC is unbeaten at home in eight games this season.

Ralston got the Revolution off to a good start when he scored in the first 15 minutes. Kheli Dube and Adam Cristman did most of the work to set up the goal and, after Cristman's shot bounced off the right post, Ralston buried the ball into an empty net.

Cristman nearly doubled New England's lead in the 56th minute, but he was just a step late on a cross from Dube. Cristman extended his leg to try and poke the ball inside the left post, but was just inches short of making contact.

Dube had a scoring chance two minutes later off a cross from Cristman, but his header went just wide of the left post.

New England found the back of the net again in the 59th minute when Dube's shot rattled off the crossbar and bounced to Ralston. The veteran midfielder settled the ball and made a move to his right, then back to his left before placing it the left side of the net.

Toronto made the final 15 minutes interesting when Edu redirected a free kick from Amado Guevaro by New England goalie Matt Reis in the 78th minute. Guevara delivered the free kick into the penalty area and Edu got enough of the ball to fool Reis for his second goal of the season.

New England welcomed star striker Taylor Twellman back seconds later - he made just his second appearance because of knee and ankle injuries - but it was star defender Michael Parkhurst who saved all three points in the 88th minute.

After Reis deflected a shot, Toronto's Jim Brennan struck the rebound on goal, but Parkhurst deflected the ball with his chest and Reis covered up to end the play. Brennan had another chance in the 89th minute, but Reis easily saved his low shot.

Reis finished with just three saves. TFC rookie Brian Edwards made two saves.

New England will try to build on its win at the Los Angeles Galaxy on Friday. Toronto is off until July 12 when it visits the Chicago Fire.
