Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Ante Razov took advantage of a defensive mistake to score his second goal of the year and help Chivas USA tie Red Bull New York, 1-1, on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center.

Razov, who last scored on April 26, ran onto a bad pass by New York to score in first-half extra time. His 111th career goal, which is second all-time, erased Dave van den Bergh's fluke free-kick goal in the 26th minute for New York.

Chivas (5-6-3) failed to build on an impressive 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire last week, but still started an unbeaten streak with the draw.

New York (5-4-5) has only lost one of its last four matches, a run that started with a 1-0 win over Chivas on June 5.

New York took the lead in the 26th minute when Van den Bergh swung a free kick into the area and it sailed over his teammates and Chivas' defenders and just inside the left post.

Van den Bergh was just trying to cross the ball, but it inched just over a pair of players in the area and Chivas goalie Brad Guzan committed himself to a shot off the cross. Instead, Guzan was flatfooted as the ball curled into the net.

Van den Bergh cracked a huge smile after the goal, his fourth of the season.

Chivas defender Jonathan Bornstein, who committed the foul that led to the free kick, nearly tied the match 10 minutes later. His shot was cleared off the line by New York's Hunter Freeman.

The Red Bulls survived another scare minutes later when Andrew Boyens cleared a bicycle kick by Chivas' Claudio Suarez off the line. The bicycle kick was after the ball appeared to bounce off the arm of a New York player. And Boyens only made the clearance after the ball bounced off his arm.

Chivas was upset about neither call being made, but New York returned the favor in the closing seconds of the opening half. Kevin Goldthwaite took a free kick and passed to Boyens, but his head was down and the ball rolled by him.

Razov alertly ran to the loose ball at the top of the penalty area and placed a low shot by N.Y. goalie Jon Conway.

Conway was helpless on Razov's goal, but he made two great saves early in the second half to keep the match tied at 1.

The first save was a diving effort to push a free kick from Razov away from the upper right corner, and the second denied Ryan Braun from close range. Conway's saves were within less than a minute of each other.

The physical battle, which included six yellow cards and 62 fouls, finished up without any more great scoring chances for either side.

Guzan finished with three saves for Chivas. Conway had four saves for New York.

New York, which was without Juan Pablo Angel and Claudio Reyna again, will try to continue its recent success on Friday at the Colorado Rapids. Chivas hosts the San Jose Earthquakes on July 5 in the fourth of fifth straight homes games.
