Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Columbus Crew erased two second-half deficits to come back at earn a 3-3 draw at The Home Depot Center vs. the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night.
Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle goals put the Galaxy up 2-0 inside 47 minutes, but the Crew got two quick goals from Brad Evans and Guillermo Barros Schelotto within four minutes to tie the score with just under 20 minutes to play.
After that, things got exciting as a Donovan goal was canceled out by rookie Steve Lenhart's first career goal in the last 10 minutes.
Donovan, making first appearance with team since a May 24th win over Kansas City because of injury and U.S. national team duty, made it 1-0 when Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer dropped a David Beckham cross in the fourth minute. Donovan was in the right place at the right time to hammer the loose ball home for the early 1-0 lead.
Buddle, who was coming off a hat trick in the Galaxy's last game, made it 2-0 less than two minutes after the break when he took a through ball into the left side of the crew penalty area, pulled a half-moon around Danny O'Rourke, and fired past Hesmer.
The Galaxy looked like they would coast to victory until Columbus pulled one back in the 67th minute. A Schelotto cross pin-balled between the heads of two players in the box right to Evans, who buried it to make it 2-1.
Less than five minutes later Robbie Rogers was tripped up in the box by Chris Klein, earning a penalty kick, which Schelotto buried to make it 2-2.
With just seven minutes to play the Galaxy jumped back on top when Beckham was taken down in the box, earning a PK for his team, which Donovan buried for his league-leading 11th goal of the season.
In 88th minute Columbus got the goal back after Rogers drew a free kick just outside the box on the left side. Schelotto played the ball to the top of the box where it was fired on goal by Frankie Hejduk, but Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin couldn't hang on and rookie Steve Lenhart pounded it home for his first career MLS goal to tie the score at three.
The Galaxy (6-4-3) will look to get in the win column when they travel to D.C. for their next league fixture on June 29 while Columbus (7-4-2) hosts Colorado a day earlier.
