Kansas City, KN (Sports Network) - Alejandro Moreno scored two goals and Chad Marshall added one as the Columbus Crew broke out of a scoring drought in a 3-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.
Columbus snapped a stretch of 370 minutes without scoring - which included four straight shutouts - when Marshall scored in the third minute.
Moreno added his fifth and sixth goals of the year as Columbus (7-4-1) won its first Major League Soccer game since May 10, a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.
Kansas City (3-5-3) is winless in six straight, including four losses.
Marshall sparked struggling Columbus just three minutes into the match with his first goal of the season. Guillermo Barros Schelotto delivered a corner kick to Marshall and he headed the ball inside the left post.
Moreno doubled the Crew's lead in the 20th minute when Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman charged off his line but couldn't get to the ball in time. Moreno took a quick side kick to direct the ball past Hartman and into the open net.
Moreno added his second goal in the 67th minute and goalie Will Hesmer made his best save in the final 15 minutes to preserve his fourth shutout of the year.
Columbus moved into second place in the Eastern Conference and is four points behind the New England Revolution.
Kansas City is last in the Eastern Conference, three points behind Red Bull New York.
