Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rapids moved to the top of Major League Soccer's Western Conference table with a 2-1 win over FC Dallas at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Sunday afternoon.
After 10 games, the Rapids have 15 points, with three other teams - the Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA and the Houston Dynamo - tied just a point back.
The Rapids struck first on Sunday when striker Conor Casey, making his first start of the season, scored just seven minutes in. He collected a pass from Christian Gomez in the Dallas penalty area, cut inside past a defender and fired a low shot just inside the far post past Hoops' goalkeeper Ray Burse.
That was how the score stayed until just before the first half break when FC Dallas forward Dominic Oduro pounced on a loose ball in the Rapids' box and knocked it in past Preston Burpo to tie the score at one.
Colorado went up 2-1 in the 72nd minute, however, when Tom McManus scored the game winner after running under a long clearance from Rafael Gomes behind the Dallas defense. McManus outraced central defender Duilio Davino to ball and fired a shot inside the near post past Burse.
The Rapids will look to hold onto first in the West when they travel to take on the Galaxy at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, while FC Dallas plays at New England on Friday in its next league fixture.
