MLS Game Summary - D.C. at New England

Final Score: D.C. 2 - New England 2

Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - New England goalkeeper Matt Reis made eight saves, many of the spectacular, and forward Kheli Dube scored his third goal in three games to lead their club to a come-from-behind 2-2 draw with D.C. United in Major League Soccer action on Thursday night.

D.C., which has struggled this season, went up 2-0 eight minutes after the first-half break on goals by Luciano Emilio and Fred, but Adam Cristman and Dube answered in the last half-hour to give New England a point and first place overall in the Eastern table ahead of the weekend fixtures.

D.C., on the other hand, which squandered numerous opportunities to take a commanding lead in the first half, falls to last place, 10 points back of New England in the East.

Things looked promising for the away side early, with Emilio notching his third goal of the season just 15 minutes in. After a free kick by Marcelo Gallardo into the New England penalty area, defender Shalrie Joseph headed the ball into the air, but Clyde Simms volleyed it on goal, forcing Reis to make a tough save. Emilio buried the rebound in the corner on a diving header, however.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 53rd minute after Reis made a number of tough saves after a flurry in the box. Emilio broke in and played a ball off the hands of Reis, but defender Michael Parkhurst cleared the ball off the line, but right to the top of the penalty area. After the ball was blasted back on goal, Reis made another save, but Fred pounced on the rebound and slotted it home for his first goal of the season.

New England pulled a goal back six minutes later when substitute Adam Cristman pounced on a deflected ball in the box and fired home. Dube got the assist on the goal.

With just 18 minutes to play, New England got the equalizer on a set piece. Steve Ralston bent a free kick into the D.C. penalty area that was headed across the goalmouth by Jeff Larentowicz to Dube, who headed home to knot the game at two.

New England (6-3-2) will aim to improve its already solid standing when it hosts Dallas on June 6 in its next league fixture while D.C. (3-7-1) plays at Chicago a day later.
