Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - Chivas USA won its second straight Major League Soccer fixture on Saturday night, topping the Colorado Rapids 2-1 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Jesse Marsch and Jorge Flores scored goals on each side of the half for the visitors, who improved to 3-4-2 on the season.
Even with the loss, Colorado holds the top spot in the Western table before the Los Angeles Galaxy game vs. Kansas City later on Saturday.
Chivas USA took the lead in the game just before the first half break when Marsch took a pass from Justin Braun in the penalty area, cut back and fired far post for his second goal in as many games.
That was how the score stayed until Flores scored in the 78th minute on a set piece to double the visitors lead. Carey Talley fired a free kick from about 60 yards out into the Rapids' penalty area where Flores outmuscled a defender to head the ball past Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul.
Colorado's Tom McManus fired a right-footed bomb from long range into the upper right corner of the net in the 80th minute to pull the goal back, but that was as close as the home side could get
Colorado (4-5-0) will have a chance to rebound at home in its next league fixture vs. FC Dallas on June 1 while Chivas USA will look to add to its winning streak when it hosts Columbus a day earlier.
