MLS Game Summary - New England at Kansas City

Final Score: New England 3 - Kansas City 1

Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - For the second time in their past three Major League Soccer fixtures, the New England Revolution got major contributions from a pair of 19-year-old Gambians - Kenny Mansally and Sainey Nyassi. The latest strong efforts came in a 3-1 win over the Kansas City Wizards on Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

With the score tied at one a half hour into the game, the Gambians took over - with a little help from their friends.

Khano Smith and Mansally worked a give-and-go on the left wing to give Smith a free run at goal. Two Wizards defenders and goalkeeper Kevin Hartman committed to Smith in the box, and he cooly slid a pass across the penalty area to Nyassi, who fired home in a wide open net for his second goal of the season.

New England (2-1-0) got an insurance goal against the run of play to make it 3-1 five minutes before the first-half break to close out the scoring. With the Revs earning a free kick from about 40 yards out, Mauricio Castro bent a dangerous ball into the box. New England midfielder Shalrie Joseph battled two defenders to keep the ball alive before Mansally pounced to knock his first MLS goal into the net.

New England opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the game when Wizards defender Jack Jewsbury scored an own goal after a Castro free kick into the box. The Honduran took the chance from the left side and fired into the penalty area. Wizards defender Tyson Wahl got on the other end of it and fired a clearance, but it deflected of Jewsbury and into his own net.

The Wizards equalized about 15 minutes later when they earned a penalty kick. Forward Scott Sealy and midfielder Kurt Morsink worked a give-and-go at the top of the Revs' box, but Morsink was taken down, earning the PK from referee Terry Vaughn. Jewsbury redeemed his earlier miscue by beating Revs goalkeeper Matt Reis to tie the score at one.

The Revs went up for good five minutes later.

New England will be back in action Saturday when it hosts Colorado while the Wizards (2-1-0) host back-to-back defending champions Houston the same day.

Game Notes: New England played without four starters in the game. Defender Chris Albright, midfielder Steve Ralston and forward Taylor Twellman were all absent due to injury while defensive midfielder Jeff Larentowicz served a suspension for earning a red card in the Revs' last fixture - a 4-0 loss to Chicago. ... Left back Amaechi Igwe started his first professional game in place of Albright while second-year pro Gary Flood started in place of Larentowicz. It was Flood's third career start.
