D.C. United (10-11-3) at Los Angeles (6-10-8), 11 p.m.
Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy host D.C. United on Saturday in Major League Soccer action with a lot on the line for both clubs.
The Galaxy haven't won an MLS match since mid-June and currently reside in last in the entire league with just 26 points after 24 league fixtures.
United is winless in its last three league fixtures and needs to find its form to ensure it can stay in the top five in the East - and guarantee itself a playoff spot - over its final six games.
Both teams are coming off disappointing efforts last week.
The Galaxy (6-10-8) fell to Kansas City, 2-0, on the road to extend its winless streak to 12 games.
"The difference in the game was a 15-minute segment in the second half," L.A. coach Bruce Arena said. "I thought Kansas City brought more energy to the game in the second half than we did. We were suspicious going into the game that we were going to have some issues with fatigue and that showed. But give Kansas City credit. They deserved to win the game."
"It was a tough game for us again," Galaxy midfielder David Beckham said. "No one likes losing and we've gone a long time without winning a game. [Saturday's] another tough one to take. In the second half they just had a little bit more in them than we did."
United is coming off a disappointing result at home vs. FC Dallas, a 2-2 draw.
"We needed to get three points," United midfielder Santino Quaranta said. We just feel really let down. They were killing us. We still had chances but they had chances and they finished them off so you have to give them credit but it's unacceptable. It's getting to the point now that we have to hold ourselves accountable. [There were] too many mistakes. It has to get better from everybody. We're not too happy."
United will be shorthanded again on Saturday, with Domenic Mediate, Jeff Carroll, Joe Vide, Ben Olsen and Marcelo Gallardo out with injuries.
The Galaxy are hoping that is the advantage that will help them break their winless drought.
"I think we realize it's going to be very tough, but it's possible. I think once we get that first win mentally it will be better," Beckham said. "Even [Saturday vs. K.C.], you could see we were a little bit down. I'm not sure we had the belief that we could win this game. That's obviously part of the mental side of it. Once we get over that, once we get our first win I think it'll be all right."
