MLS Preview from The Sports Network

Dallas (5-6-7) at Toronto (6-7-4), 4 p.m.

Toronto, Ontario (Sports Network) - Toronto FC will be happy to return home to BMO Field on Sunday for an afternoon contest with FC Dallas after the Reds suffered another road loss on Monday to Real Salt Lake.

Monday's loss leaves TFC winless in its last five league contests and has dropped the club into a four-way tie for the bottom spot in the Eastern Conference. Toronto trails first-place New England by 11 points, but is only four points behind third-place Chicago.

Many of Toronto's problems this season have come away from home, where the team has posted a poor 1-7 mark. TFC looked like it would get a point from Monday's contest when Amado Guevara scored on a free kick in the 84th minute to level the match at 1-1, but RSL responded three minutes later with a game- winning goal from Robbie Findley.

Late-game letdowns are nothing new to the Reds this season, and goalkeeper Greg Sutton feels it is a bad habit that the team must break out of.

"It's the same old story - we can't put 90 minutes together," said Sutton. "We let ourselves down. We did well to get ourselves back into the game in the second half. I thought we did what we said we wanted to do at halftime, and when we came out it was pretty effective. Then we had that mental error again. It's one thing to happen once or twice, but now it's becoming a habit - a real bad habit."

While winning on the road has proven to be a tall order, Toronto has had no such trouble on home soil. The team has put together a 5-0-4 record, and needs to continue that success if they are to make a serious run at a playoff spot.

TFC will be without Maurice Edu and Marvell Wynne because both players are in Beijing with the U.S. Olympic team, while Todd Dunivant (ankle) and Danny Dichio (concussion) are sidelined with injuries.

One player that head coach John Carver will be looking to for help up top is newly-acquired striker Chad Barrett. The former Chicago Fire sniper was picked up in a trade on Wednesday for Brian McBride, whose rights were claimed through the allocation rankings.

Toronto received Barrett along with a 2009 first-round pick in the SuperDraft as well as conditional future considerations for McBride.

Dallas, meanwhile, enters the match on the heels of an impressive 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday. The victory was the first under head coach Schellas Hyndman, and it pulled the Hoops to within one point of second-place clubs L.A. and Houston in the crowded Western Conference.

"It feels very good to walk away with the win," Dallas striker Kenny Cooper said. "I thought we did the things that the coaches have asked of us. I feel that Schellas has been making a good impact on us on a daily basis. It's nice to show that in a result like this."

Not only was the win the first under Hyndman, but it also snapped a four-game winless skid for the club. The victory was especially satisfying since the team played a number of inexperienced players and got such a positive result.

Midfielder Eric Avila received his first MLS start, while Aaron Pitchkolan was back in the starting 11 after four games. Michael Dello-Russo appeared in the first team for only the second time and Chase Wileman made his first full league debut.

"We had a lot of players that haven't played very much like Eric Avila who was outstanding. "Aaron Pitchkolan was very strong in the air and we even brought on two players, Chase Wileman and Michael Dello-Russo, who don't play very often and they did a great job for us," said Hyndman.

One player who the Hoops can continue to rely on is Cooper. The striker has scored five goals in the team's last six games, and was a hot topic for international teams in the past few weeks. However, FCD general manager Michael Hitchcock has made it clear that Cooper will remain with the club for the rest of the season.

"We received offers from multiple international clubs for Kenny Cooper during this transfer window, but we elected to decline them all," Hitchcock said. "The international interest is a credit to Kenny, FC Dallas and the ever increasing talent level in Major League Soccer. Winning championships is our priority, and we feel strongly that Kenny will continue to be an important part of our success as we compete for the MLS Cup this year and in the future."
