MLS Preview from The Sports Network

New England (8-3-3) at Real Salt Lake (4-5-4), 9:30 p.m.

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake and the New England Revolution will both put extended unbeaten runs on the line when they square off at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday night in Major League Soccer action.

Both teams earned mid-week draws to extend their current runs, with RSL posting a 2-0-2 record in its last four, while the Revs are on a current 5-0-2 run that has them at the top of the league and Eastern Conference standings.

Another positive for the hosts is after their scoreless draw with San Jose on Wednesday, they are still one of just two teams in MLS that has yet to taste defeat on their home field - going 3-0-4 at Rice-Eccles Stadium this season. However, after San Jose went down a man just before the break, RSL was disappointed it couldn't get three points playing up a man at home for the entire second half against an expansion club.

"We'll have to feel very disappointed that the final touch wasn't there to get us all three points," RSL coach Jason Kreis said. "I think that this is the first time all season that we have been a man up, and so for this team I think it's another area where we have to go back and look and see how we dealt with it. I would say it probably wasn't good enough, and it's another experience we're going to have to learn from."

New England, on the other hand, was pleased to get a draw at home after falling behind 1-0 to New York in the first half before forward Kheli Dube set up a Steve Ralston goal with just over 10 minutes to play tied the score.

"I just had to make sure I got it to the guy who had the opportunity to score," Dube said. "Ralston was wide open. I could've tried to shoot, but it was better to get it to someone who was open and get the goal."

Ralston, who is a natural midfielder, played forward in the second half in an attempt to add more offense to the Revs' attack.

"I haven't played forward since my sophomore year in college," he said. "In practice every once in a while, I'll step up and play there. ... I got on the end of one."

Ralston narrowly missed on getting another goal just before the final whistle, forcing the Revs to share the points at home.

"Over the last 10 minutes and injury time, we got the ball wide more in that period than we did in the rest of the game," Revs coach Steve Nicol said. "We caused them problems. We could have gotten another one. We would have stolen the points if we'd gotten the second one."

Shalrie Joseph, who made an unexpected return to the Revs on Wednesday, will not be available on Saturday because of his participation with his national team in a World Cup qualifier. Kenny Mansally and Khano Smith will miss the game for the same reason. Mauricio Castro could also miss the game after suffering a pulled muscle in the match against the Red Bulls.

RSL will be close to full strength, with the only significant absence being backup goalkeeper Chris Seitz, who has been called in for U.S. national team duty.
