MLS Preview from The Sports Network

Los Angeles (5-4-2) at San Jose (3-6-1), 10 p.m.

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy will aim to extend their lead atop the Western Conference table when they travel to take on the last- place San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night at the McAfee Coliseum.

Both teams are playing pretty well, even though they are on opposite ends of the table. After a four-game winless run, the Quakes (3-6-3) have won twice in their last three league fixtures while the Galaxy (5-4-2) have won three of their last four.

The Galaxy are coming off a 3-2 home win over the Colorado Rapids in which they went up 3-0 before withstanding a late run to hang on for their fifth win of the season.

"I think it was a crazy match for a coach," Galaxy coach Ruud Gullit. "I think that the first half we played very good. It was a good match. Good goals also. I enjoyed watching my team. I think the send off of Alan Gordon was a critical moment for the game itself. He gave us so much space, so much running and everything. It could go either way. I think the second half instead of being four-nil up, we made it difficult. Unnecessary. It was a crazy game."

The Earthquakes are coming off a 2-0 win at Columbus, extending the Crew's scoreless streak to four games.

"We've been overpowered in away games and I thought tonight was a good example of a fantastic away performance," Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said. "We made it miserable for the other team to play us, we took our chances when they came along and we were all over them. We fought until the very last kick, the last whistle and that was excellent."

The 'Quakes, like most MLS teams this time of year, will be without some players on international duty. Forward Kei Kamara and midfielder Ivan Guerrero will represent their respective national teams this weekend.

The Galaxy will be without forwards Landon Donovan - for the third consecutive match - and Carlos Ruiz for the same reason.
