Kansas City (2-1-1) at Chicago (2-0-1), 3 p.m.
Bridgeview, IL (Sports Network) - Two of the better teams in the Eastern Conference early this season, the Kansas City Wizards and the Chicago Fire - square off at Toyota Park on Sunday with the top spot in the conference table potentially on the line.
The two Major League Soccer sides are currently tied for second place in the East, two points back of Columbus, with a winner meaning a new leader on Sunday.
The F, who ire are one of two unbeaten squads in the league heading into the weekend fixtures, are coming off a 1-0 victory at expansion San Jose last weekend.
"We knew coming here was going to be a difficult game," Fire coach Denis Hamlett said after the game. "As a group we defended well today, we got our three points and now we'll move forward."
The Wizards are coming off a a scoreless draw at home vs. the back-to-back defending league champion Houston Dynamo in their last league fixture.
"I thought it was a hard-fought game between two very good teams," Wizards coach Curt Onalfo said. "It was two very solid efforts defensively from both sides. "... I think there's a lot of positives to take from this game, and now we have some weeks where we can continue to improve as a group."
Sunday's game will be the Wizards first on the road, after opening the season with four straight matches at their new temporary home, CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas.
"Our fans have been great for these first four matches at CommunityAmerica Ballpark," Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman said. "When you know that your fans are going to be getting on the other players and supporting you throughout the entire match, it makes coming to the stadium each day that much more fun.
"I guess you look at it as ambitiously as you can. When you are on the road you want to do whatever you can. We're going to go out and try to win games. It's not necessarily a league that rewards ties, so you want to get points where you can. We play with the attacking mentality that we want to go out and try to win every game. It's a big challenge on the road but it's a challenge I think we're ready for."
Both teams could be missing influential players in their respective midfielders, with the Fire's Chris Rolfe listed as questionable with an ankle injury and the Wizards' Carlos Marinelli doubtful with a groin strain. Both players could play, but it is not likely either will see the pitch this weekend.
Two influential players who will play will be former Club America teammates Claudio Lopez and Cuauhtemoc Blanco, who are designated players on opposite teams now.
Lopez has scored just one goal after four MLS games for the Wizards, but is finding his form while Blanco has two goals and an assist in three games in his second season in MLS.
