MLS Preview from The Sports Network

New York (1-0-0) at Dallas (0-0-2), 8:30 p.m.

Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - Saturday's Major League Soccer clash between the New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas is a clash of two clubs that have yet to taste defeat early in the '08 season.

The Red Bulls are coming off an impressive 2-0 home victory over the Columbus Crew last week in their opener after having a bye the first week of the season.

"We got two goals that were well deserved," Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio said. "We worked very hard on set plays and I think we got our reward."

The Hoops are in a different mindset after earning a draw in the second straight game after leading late. Last weekend, Dallas let Texas rival Houston score a stoppage time goal to tie at three to earn a split of the points.

"It feels like a loss," FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow said. "I think we should have had the game won by then. We had two or three chances to go up 4-2. We should've finished off the game. " ... We're disappointed to give up a goal so late. We did the same thing last week, so we should be sitting on two wins and six points right now."

The Hoops hope to rebound at home on Saturday and earn their first win of the season.

"We scored three goals and had a bunch of opportunities," said Dallas forward Kenny Cooper, who had two goals vs. the Dynamo last week. "With guys like Juan [Toja], Artie [Alvarez] and really anyone on this team, I'm confident that we will create chances and opportunities. Hopefully that will just continue throughout the year and we can score a bunch of goals."

The New York defense will have to contain Cooper and the aforementioned players without starting center back Jeff Parke, who earned to yellow cards against Columbus and will serve a one-game suspension Saturday.

"We have a way to replace Jeff," Osorio said after the game. "Obviously we will miss his athleticism but I think in football you just have to accept that is what this whole game is about."

Osorio, who employs a 3-5-2 formation, has some options in the back, such as sliding one of his two fullbacks into the middle and bringing Carlos Mendes off the bench. Left back Kevin Goldthwaite, who had a very strong game vs. the Crew is an option in the middle.

"Kevin Goldthwaite, in my eyes, in my opinion, was the best player on the game today," Osorio said. "He carried the team for a bit, him and (right back) Chris Leitch. That is what the professional football is all about.

"In the air he showed he is very competitive, very good. I think his distribution from the back (was very good). If I'm not mistaken I recall only one ball that he gave away in the first half. But rather than that, he came and played football. He was always an outlet and he is very competitive and very good in one-v-one situations."

The Hoops are confident they will be able break through against the Red Bulls makeshift backline and earn a victory.

"In the last two games, we have played two really good teams in Chivas, the defending champs in the Western Conference and going to Houston, the MLS Cup champs the last two years," Cooper said. "It's a good way to get the season going and we've picked up valuable points in both games. We've done good things in both games. Hopefully, we can keep building upon that and keep getting better and better."
