Colorado (1-1-0) at New England (2-1-0), 7:30 p.m.
Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution host the Colorado Rapids on Saturday at Gillette Stadium three days after earning a 3-1 victory at Kansas City.
"It was a fantastic result,' Revs coach Steve Nicol said after the win. "We showed a real togetherness after our last result (a 4-0 loss to Chicago), and obviously with the changes we had to make to the lineup, we showed we can get a result and never give up. It's never a hopeless cause with this team because they always stand up to be counted. That's what you saw tonight. We're proud of them."
New England played without four starters in the game. Defender Chris Albright, midfielder Steve Ralston and forward Taylor Twellman were all absent due to injury while defensive midfielder Jeff Larentowicz served a suspension for earning a red card in the Revs' last fixture - a 4-0 loss to Chicago. Left back Amaechi Igwe started his first professional game in place of Albright while second-year pro Gary Flood started in place of Larentowicz. It was Flood's third career start.
The Rapids are coming off a 3-2 loss to Kansas City last weekend in a thriller at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Rapids came back from two goals down to tie the score before the Wizards scored a late winner. The loss occurred a week after dominating the Los Angeles galaxy, 4-0, at home.
"I don't think we have to prove anything to anyone," Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo said. "Two games doesn't say if you're good or you're bad. I think we have improved in our scoring opportunities and in the way we finish. I think as a team we have improved."
If the Rapids are going to be successful on the road Saturday, they are going to have to find a way to shut down the speedy Revs' attack that features 19- year-old Gambians Kenney Mansally and Sainey Nyassi, among others. Mansally scored a goal and an assist and Nyassi scored the game-winner against Kansas City.
"They did a great job tonight, but the thing to remember is they always have things to learn, but with that always comes a tremendous ability on the field," Nicol said of the young Gambians.
