NHL Game Summary - Dallas at San Jose

Final Score: Dallas 2 - San Jose 3

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Joe Pavelski tallied 1:05 into overtime as San Jose overcame a late two-goal deficit to top Dallas, 3-2, in Game 5 of their Western Conference semifinal from HP Pavilion.

After a failed clear inside the Stars' zone, Pavelski picked up the puck along the left wing side halfway up the boards. He skated in, curled around to the right circle, and lifted a wrist shot over Marty Turco's shoulder.

"I tried to pump fake and tried to get him to drop a bit and kept pushing it and pushing it," Pavelski said of his thought process on the shot. "It is really the only shot I have as a shooter coming around like that. If he moves at all it is gonna open up."

Milan Michalek and Brian Campbell scored in regulation for the Sharks, who have rallied from an 0-3 series deficit to force a Game 6 in Dallas on Sunday.

Evgeni Nabokov made 24 saves to earn his sixth win of the postseason.

Jere Lehtinen and Brenden Morrow lit the lamp for the Stars, who blew a two- goal third-period lead.

Turco allowed three goals on 22 shots in defeat.

"We're still the team that needs one to win it and they are the team that needs two," noted Stars defenseman Mattias Norstrom. "They came out hard and won it. The series has been exactly like this all along."

Turco stopped a Patrick Marleau breakaway early in the third, laying prone on the ice and smothering the chance before the goal-challenged forward could lift the puck off the ice.

Then, at the 4:39 mark, Morrow was the center of controversy with the Stars on the power play.

An errant centering pass hit the Dallas captain in the body as he moved toward the crease. The puck glanced off his glove, then over the goal line without hitting his stick. Review quickly confirmed the initial call of no- goal and the Sharks remained down by two.

"I was going to knock it down and hit it in but the cross check pushed me into the net," said Morrow of his second disallowed goal. "We have to move on and earn our breaks."

That proved costly, as Michalek buried a pass from Joe Thornton to bring San Jose within 2-1 at 6:20.

Campbell tied the game with 8:53 left in regulation as he took a lead pass from Jeremy Roenick, barreled down the left wing and ripped a wrister under the crossbar on the far side.

"We're not ready to go home," said Thornton. "We are a desperate hockey team we go down 2-0 and we stuck with it and played hard, and good things happen when you go to the net and play hard. We got rewarded for that tonight."

Dallas struck for the first goal of the game while on the power play. Mike Modano whipped a pass from the right point to the top of the left circle for Sergei Zubov. The veteran defenseman held to settle the disc, then fed into the slot for Lehtinen's tip-in at 6:14 of the second period.

Morrow's deflection from inside the crease off a Mike Ribeiro feed with 4:29 to play in the period was waved off when replay determined Morrow kicked the puck into the net with his skate.

Morrow atoned for his miscue with under a minute to play when his sharp-angle shot from the left circle found a hole through Nabokov for a 2-0 Stars edge.
