NHL Game Summary - San Jose at Dallas

Final Score: San Jose 1 - Dallas 2

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Mattias Norstrom's goal 4:37 into overtime gave the Dallas Stars a 2-1 win over the San Jose Sharks in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals at American Airlines Center.

Sergei Zubov tied the game in the third period while Mike Ribeiro set up both goals for the Stars, who hold a 3-0 lead in the series and can close it out on Wednesday as Game 4 is set to take place in Dallas. Marty Turco made 19 saves.

"Game 3 is pivotal and it gives us a lot of momentum and excitement," said Dallas forward Mike Modano. "We want to get right back at them and we'll see what happens tomorrow."

Patrick Marleau scored the lone goal while Evgeni Nabokov stopped 27 shots for San Jose, which is facing expulsion from the playoffs in the second round for the third straight season.

"I think we don't want to dwell on this too long," said Marleau. "We want to keep going and keep our spirits up and just keep winning our next game."

In the extra session, Ribeiro had the puck deep along the left side and fed a pass that hit off a stick in front. However, the puck squirted out to the left point and Norstrom blasted the puck, which deflected off of a Shark and went into the net for the win.

"It's one of those situations that we had the puck for a while and I was just trying to get the puck to the net as soon as I could," said Norstrom. "I thought tonight was our best game of the series and tomorrow we want to close it out."

Trailing by a goal to start the third period, the Stars were already skating with a man advantage when Christian Ehrhoff was called for hooking to give the team a 5-on-3.

Just 12 seconds after the penalty, Ribeiro and Zubov played catch with the puck before Zubov blasted a one-timer through a screen to tie the contest at 1-1 just 47 seconds in.

"Well when you go down 5-on-3, what the heck are you going to do," said San Jose coach Ron Wilson. "It was a tough break."

Dallas had an opportunity to take the lead as Niklas Hagman was awarded a penalty shot after Ehrhoff tripped him up on a breakaway. Hagman skated in on net and from the right side went to the backhand, but Nabokov was in a perfect position and he made the save with 9:10 left in regulation.

San Jose almost had an early lead as Marleau jammed the puck into the net after Turco covered up a stuff attempt from Joe Thornton 4:01 into the first. However, the referee blew the whistle before the puck crossed the goal line.

Dallas got its first power play of the game towards the end of the first period when Thornton was called for cross-checking. It was the Sharks, though, who scored on the Dallas advantage.

An errant point pass resulted in the puck sliding into the neutral zone where Marleau picked it up, skated into the San Jose end all alone and snapped a shot over Turco's glove with just 34.1 ticks left on the clock.

In all, Nabokov made six saves in the period and got help when Joel Lundqvist banged a shot off the crossbar with about 4 1/2 minutes left in the frame.

The second period went scoreless as Dallas had nine shots while San Jose threw seven shots on net, all of which the goaltenders stopped.
