NHL Game Summary - Dallas at San Jose

Final Score: Dallas 5 - San Jose 2

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Brad Richards collected a goal and three assists -- all in the third period -- as the Dallas Stars beat the San Jose Sharks, 5-2, in Game 2 of their Western Conference semifinal series at HP Pavilion.

Niklas Hagman scored twice, while Mike Ribeiro and Mike Modano also lit the lamp for the Stars, who have taken the first two games in this best-of-seven series. Marty Turco made 29 saves in the victory.

"It's huge to be up 2-0," said Modano. "It's a very big trip for us. It's how we react when we go home, and how we respond to this, and carrying the momentum back there. I'm sure the fans will be a little geared up for this one Tuesday. We are excited to go back in our situation, but we know it's a long way from over. But, it was a great two days here."

The Stars also welcomed the return of defenseman Sergei Zubov, who had been sidelined since late January -- first with a hairline fracture in his foot and then by a sports hernia. Zubov, who wasn't cleared to play until moments before the game, finished with one assist.

Joe Pavelski and Milan Michalek scored for San Jose, while Evgeni Nabokov surrendered four goals on 25 shots.

"I have been in that situation before when we lost both games at home," said Nabokov. "We just have to take it one game at a time and we have to prepare ourselves and get the win in the next one."

Game 3 is set for Tuesday in Dallas.

Trailing 2-1 heading to the third, the Stars exploded for four unanswered goals. The first came just 32 seconds in, as Richards rifled a shot past Nabokov from the lower right circle.

The club then struck on the power play at 3:39, as Zubov moved from left to right between the circles, spun and sent a no-look pass to Modano, who deposited the puck into the back of the net for a 3-2 lead.

Richards collected his third point of the period and helped to put the game away at the 13:55 mark, as he charged the net and sent a shot off the leg of Nabokov. Hagman was there to sweep home the rebound, giving Dallas a 4-2 lead.

Hagman then added an empty-net goal with 1:15 remaining in the contest, with Richards once again getting the assist.

The Sharks, who wasted two early power play chances, finally cashed in on the man-advantage at 10:13 of the first period, as Jonathan Cheechoo's shot slipped through traffic in front and was tipped home by Pavelski.

Dallas answered with 4:23 left in the stanza, as Ribeiro collected the puck behind the net and banked a shot off Nabokov's skate that found its way over the goal line.

San Jose regained the lead in the second, as Michalek took an outlet pass from Brian Campbell, broke two strides ahead of the defense, slipped in alone on Turco and beat the sprawling netminder with a forehand shot to the lower right corner at 14:54.
