Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Ryan Suter and Jason Arnott scored nine seconds apart in the third period as the Nashville Predators rallied for a 5-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings in Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinal set at Sommet Center.
Alexander Radulov and Suter each had a goal and an assist while David Legwand and Martin Erat each scored for the Predators, who now trail Detroit, 2-1, in the best-of-seven series. Dan Ellis finished the game with 23 saves.
Jiri Hudler had a goal and an assist while Dominik Hasek was charged with four goals on 28 shots for the Red Wings. Kris Draper and Pavel Datsyuk also scored in the loss.
"Two slap shots and two goals, what can you do," said Hasek. "The second one I saw pretty well, but the first one, I don't know what to say. It's disappointing cause we were so close. It doesn't really matter how you lose, we lost."
Game 4 is set to take place on Wednesday in Nashville.
Nashville was trailing, 3-2, and looking a three games to none series deficit in the face, but a pair of goals separated by just nine seconds gave the team a 4-3 lead.
Jan Hlavac skated into the Detroit end and stopped in the high slot. He then fed the disc over to the left circle for Suter, who blasted a shot past Hasek with 3:57 left.
After the faceoff at center, Arnott got the puck from Radulov, wound up and blasted a slap shot from the right circle over the left shoulder of a frozen Hasek for a 4-3 lead.
Erat's empty-netter in the final seconds of play sealed the win for the Predators.
"There's moments that are going to happen in a series that can change the whole series," said Nashville coach Barry Trotz. "I don't know, we might have just had ours."
The Red Wings grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 8:56 mark of the first period. Hudler skated into the Nashville zone and slammed on the brakes at the right circle. He spotted Draper flying down the left side and sent the puck over and Draper wristed the puck high into the net from a sharp angle.
Nashville outshot Detroit, 11-8, in the first period but Hasek stopped everything thrown his way.
Detroit took a 2-0 lead in the second period on the power play. Niklas Kronvall let fly with a shot from the right point that hit off the skate of Dan Cleary in front. The disc then skipped to the low right side where Hudler slammed it in at 9:12.
However, Nashville scored the next two goals to tie the game heading into the third period.
Erat won a right circle draw and slipped the puck back to Marek Zidlicky, who sent it over to the left point where Suter blasted a one-timer that Radulov tipped into the net with 7:07 left in the frame.
Nashville tied the game a bit over two minutes later as J.P. Dumont picked up a turnover in the neutral zone, skated in on a 2-on-1 and from the left circle slid the disc over to Legwand for a one-timer past Hasek.
Detroit took a 3-2 lead at the 40 second mark of the final frame as Datsyuk's wrister from the right circle beat Ellis to the low left corner.
