NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Anaheim

Final Score: Dallas 4 - Anaheim 0

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Marty Turco stopped all 23 shots he faced for the fourth shutout of his playoff career and four different Dallas players scored on the power play, as the Stars defeated the Anaheim Ducks, 4-0, in the opener of their best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinal series at Honda Center.

Brenden Morrow registered a goal and two assists while Jere Lehtinen, Steve Ott and Loui Eriksson also scored for fifth-seeded Dallas, which finished 4- for-7 on the power play and thoroughly dominated the game in all facets. Mike Ribeiro and Stephane Robidas both posted two assists in the win.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed four goals on 37 shots for the Ducks, who did not fare well in their first playoff game since they won the Stanley Cup on this ice 10 months ago. Anaheim, which entered this year as the fourth seed in the West, will look to even the series when they host Game 2 on Saturday.

"We took too many stupid penalties," said Anaheim's Teemu Selanne. "But there's a reason why it's best of seven. It was not pretty tonight, but we'll come back, work on a couple of things and go from there. I want us to be a hungrier team."

The Stars opened the scoring with their first of four power-play goals at the 11:25 mark of the first period. Travis Moen went to the penalty box for elbowing and the Stars cashed in when Ott's wrister from a strange angle along the lower right half-wall found its way into the net. Anaheim blueliner Sean O'Donnell was skating through the crease during the shot and inadvertently screened Giguere.

Later in the first, Eriksson's tally made it 2-0. Brad Richards passed from the lower right circle into the left slot for a successful wrister by Eriksson with 2:26 to go in the stanza.

Just over two minutes into the middle session, Ryan Getzlaf was whistled for roughing and the visitors again went to work with the man advantage. Morrow made a blind backhand pass along the base of the lower right half-wall and the puck made its way to Ribeiro, who gained control along the rear boards directly behind the net. Ribeiro quickly passed into the low slot, where a shot by Lehtinen lit the lamp at 3:58.

In the latter stages of the second, the Stars continued to pour it on, once again scoring on the power play and once again the marker was scored via the Morrow-Ribeiro-Lehtinen line. This time it was Lehtinen who started the play -- he held control inside the left circle and passed to Ribeiro at the right post. Ribeiro faked a shot from in close and then sent a pass to Morrow, whose quick snap shot from near the top of the crease beat Giguere with 2:38 remaining.

Dallas controlled the action in the third and continued to dominate, winning the battles for the puck and keeping the Anaheim forwards to the outside. The Ducks registered only seven shots on the goal in the third period.

"It has zero bearing for me to get the shutout -- it's always been about how I play, how I feel and my patience," said Turco. "It was there tonight, my patience and anything I needed to do."
