Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves for his league-leading 10th shutout of the season and the New York Rangers clinched a playoff berth with a 3-0 win over the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.
Jaromir Jagr scored twice while Martin Straka had a goal and an assist for the Rangers, who secured a playoff berth with the victory and sit in the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference.
"It's not easy to make the playoffs anymore, you have 30 teams and half the teams aren't going to make it," said Jagr. "It's not about one guy, it's about the whole team."
Wade Dubielewicz stopped 32 shots in the loss for the Islanders, who have dropped their past four games.
These teams will meet at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
The Rangers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period courtesy of a pair of goals from Jagr.
On the power play, Jagr and Christian Backman played catch with the puck before Jagr blasted a one-timer through traffic from the top of the right circle with 6:09 left in the frame.
Close to two minutes later, Michal Rozsival kept in a clearing attempt at the left point and dished the puck over to Brandon Dubinsky, who slid the disc over to the right circle were Jagr's quick shot beat Dubielewicz.
Lundqvist, who made six saves in the first period, was busy in the second period as he had to make 12 saves to keep the Islanders off the board. Dubielewicz also stopped all 12 shots he faced in the second.
The Rangers padded their lead to 3-0 at the 7:39 mark of the third period as Straka's one-timer from the slot hit off the stick of an Islanders and got past Dubielewicz.
