St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Rich Peverley scored the game-winner in overtime as the Nashville Predators came back from allowing three goals in the game's first seven minutes to post a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center.
Jan Hlavac started a rush into the offensive zone and tipped a pass to Peverley, who fired a shot from the slot past Hannu Toivonen to win the game 1:43 into the extra session.
Jordin Tootoo and Brandon Bochenski each had a goal and an assist for the Predators, who won for the fourth time in five games. Vernon Fiddler also scored in the win, while Peverley added an assist.
Dan Ellis, who entered the game having allowed just one goal in more than 233 minutes, was pulled after allowing three goals on seven shots. Chris Mason stopped all 10 shots he faced the rest of the way and earned the win.
The win bumped the Preds into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference ahead of the Vancouver Canucks, who lost to Colorado, 4-2, on Tuesday.
Bochenski got Nashville on the board 6:06 into the second period, maneuvering in between three defenders and firing home a shot from the high slot.
Mason only had to make three saves in the second to keep St. Louis off the board, and Tootoo pulled the Preds within 3-2 less than two minutes into the third when his slapper eluded Toivonen.
Fiddler completed the comeback with 6:32 to play, working around the net with a wraparound move and roofing a wrister from the right side over Toivonen's shoulder for a 3-3 tie.
After penalties to Dan Hamhuis and Paul Kariya with two minutes to play, the final moments of regulation were played at 4-on-4, but neither team pushed the deciding goal across and the game headed to overtime.
David Perron had a goal and an assist for the Blues, losers of five of six. Andy McDonald and Jamal Mayers also scored, while Toivonen made 14 saves in relief of Manny Legace, who stopped all eight shots he faced in the first period.
St. Louis solved Ellis early, as McDonald snuck in from the point and blasted a pass from Perron past Ellis to put the Blues on top just 1:40 in.
Just 3:10 later, Mayers picked up the puck on the right wing boards and charged into the Nashville zone, then wristed a shot from the right circle that beat Ellis high on the stick side. Perron followed with a shot from the same spot less than two minutes later, and Ellis was yanked in favor of Mason.
