NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Minnesota

Final Score: Edmonton 1 - Minnesota 3

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Branko Radivojevic had a goal and an assist and Niklas Backstrom made 32 saves as Minnesota held off Edmonton, 3-1, in the back end of a home-and-home series at XCel Energy Center.

Sean Hill and Brian Rolston also scored, while Mikko Koivu added three assists for the Wild, who snapped a two-game skid and remain locked in a battle for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Minnesota, which extended its home winning streak to seven against Edmonton, is back on top of the Northwest Division with 91 points, one better than idle Calgary. The Wild, by virtue of the division lead, are third in the Western Conference.

"The bottom line was the other night we didn't have a whole lot of energy," said Rolston. "I think it was just the other way around tonight. We had the energy and they really didn't and obviously getting out ahead early was huge for us. It was a huge game for us. It puts us right back where we wanna be and the next game gets bigger."

Fernando Pisani had the lone goal and Dwayne Roloson stopped 18-of-21 shots for the Oilers, who had a two-game win streak broken. Edmonton, trying to make a playoff run, is last in the Northwest and 10th in the conference race.

"It's a tough loss for us, but at this point we gotta leave it behind us," said Edmonton's Sam Gagner. "I think especially we're at that time of the year where every game matters so much. Right after the game you gotta go on and focus on the next one. Our preparation has to be really good, and ultimately we'll come out with two points."

Minnesota wasted little time in jumping to a 1-0 lead, as Marian Gaborik nabbed an Edmonton turnover in the neutral zone, broke in a two-on-one with Radivojevic, and watched him knocked the puck past an outstretched Roloson at 3:01 of the opening stanza.

A power-play tally made it 2-0 a little more than four minutes later, as Hill took a backhand pass from Koivu and one-timed the puck past Roloson on the blocker side.

Rolston struck for a short-handed goal near the midpoint of the second period, as he ended an odd-man rush with Koivu by depositing his feed into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.

Edmonton finally cracked the scoreboard in the third, as Pisani snared a loose puck in front of the net and knocked it in off the post at 4:40. The Oilers, though, were held scoreless the rest of the way.
