Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Clay Wilson and Jiri Novotny each had a goal and an assist and Fredrik Norrena made 17 saves as Columbus roughed up Chicago, 4-0, at Nationwide Arena.
It was Wilson's first career NHL tally and his first career points, while Norrena earned his second shutout of the season and fifth of his career.
"It's unbelievable," said Wilson. "I came up here not expecting too much, just trying to keep it simple on defense. Luckily, tonight things were going well. Nikolai Zherdev made a nice pass to me in the slot. I closed my eyes and the puck went in. It's just a great feeling. It's something you wait to do your whole life."
Joakim Lindstrom and Michael Peca also scored for Columbus, which snapped a three-game skid. The Blue Jackets had been outscored 10-2 in their previous three contests.
Nikolai Khabibulin turned aside 32-of-36 shots for Chicago, which has dropped three of its last five games. The Blackhawks, who have not been to the playoffs since 2002, are trying to remain in the Western Conference playoff race, but are six points behind eighth-place Vancouver.
The Blackhawks have just five games remaining, including one final test against Columbus, which pulled within a point of Chicago in the conference race.
"We give them (the Blue Jackets) credit," said Blackhawks head coach Denis Savard. "They played a heck of a hockey game. Yesterday watching the Nashville game, they outchanced Nashville last night so they're not giving up. No teams in this league do."
Columbus took 12 shots in the first period, but failed in its quest to find the back of the net. The Blackhawks were also held scoreless, but managed just four shots in the opening 20 minutes.
The Jackets fared better in the second, though, using the power play to grab a 1-0 lead. The tally came at the 4:49 mark, as Alexandre Picard set up a screen in front of the crease, allowing Lindstrom's slapper from above the right circle to skip past Khabibulin.
Norrena remained perfect for Columbus, but was tested only six times.
Wilson made it 2-0 at 7:13 of the third period, as he stationed himself in the left circle and rifled Zherdev's feed into the twine.
Novotny's one-timer made it 3-0 a little more than a minute later, and Peca capped the scoring with his sixth of the campaign with 8:03 remaining.
