Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Bill Guerin registered a goal and an assist, as the New York Islanders defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-1, at Nassau Coliseum.
Richard Park, Sean Bergenheim and Trent Hunter also scored for the Islanders, who have won two of their last three games. Miroslav Satan added two assists, while Wade Dubielewicz made 28 saves to earn the win.
"I thought we got a great job from everyone," Dubielewicz said. "We didn't sit back and let them (Penguins) take it to us. There's a couple of shifts where they put on a little pressure, but for the most part we did a heck of a job of playing consistently like we did in the second, taking it to them."
Petr Sykora lit the lamp for the Penguins, who have lost five of their last seven on the road. Ty Conklin allowed four goals on 36 shots in defeat.
"We were okay in the first period but after that, the work ethic was not there," Penguins coach Michel Therrien said. "That's why they (Islanders) won."
Pittsburgh leads the Atlantic Division with 93 points, two ahead of idle New Jersey. The Penguins trail Montreal -- which defeated Ottawa, 7-5, on Monday -- by three points for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Park's third short-handed goal of the season put the Islanders on the board at the 3:22 mark of the first period. The diminutive forward carried the puck across the offensive blue line and unleashed a rocket from the top of the right circle that beat Conklin low on the stick side.
The Penguins responded 36 seconds later on Sykora's 28th goal of the season. As the power play continued, Sykora took a feed from Tyler Kennedy and snapped a shot from below the right circle high over the left shoulder of Dubielewicz.
Guerin put the Islanders in front 2-1 when he snapped a wrister from the right circle that beat Conklin high on the short side with 8:15 remaining in the second period. While on a power play, Bergenheim stashed a rebound past the right pad of Conklin to give the Islanders a 3-1 advantage with 5:07 left in the middle frame.
Hunter tallied with 7:19 remaining in the third to put the game out of reach.
