Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Nigel Dawes scored the lone goal in the shootout, as the New York Rangers ran their record to 6-0-0 this season against New Jersey with a 2-1 win at the Prudential Center.

After a scoreless first round, Dawes faked a shot, freezing Martin Brodeur, and slipped the puck between the goaltender's legs. In the third round, Zach Parise had a chance to extend the extra segment, but Henrik Lundqvist turned aside his forehand offering to secure the victory.

Chris Drury scored in regulation for the Rangers, who have won two straight and five of their last seven games overall. Lundqvist stopped 17-of-18 shots to pick up the win.

"He's one of the leaders the way he plays, he's definitely one of the leaders on this team," Lundqvist said of Drury. "I think it's his specialty, to score big goals, just find a way to be at the right place at the right time. You just feel after a couple of months, in practice and during games he gets sharper and sharper. You get a really good feeling when he's out there and it's great to have him on the team."

The Rangers moved into a tie with idle Ottawa for fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 87 points.

Dainius Zubrus lit the lamp for the Devils, who returned home from a 3-1-0 road trip. Brodeur, making his 32nd consecutive start between the pipes, allowed one goal on 21 shots in defeat.

"I don't know, they've all been tight games, we just can't find a way to score against them (Rangers)," Parise said. "I think that's five goals in six games and you're not going to beat a team too much when you're not scoring that much. That has something to do with it, but I don't know, it's one of those things, we can't seem to get that extra effort to beat them."

New Jersey leads the Eastern Conference with 91 points.

The Rangers knotted the score on Drury's 23rd marker of the season with 4:46 remaining in the third period. Martin Straka dropped the puck behind the net to Ryan Callahan, who then came around the left post and whipped a pass through the crease to a wide-open Drury stationed at the right side of the goal. Drury corralled the disc and buried it in the back of the net before Brodeur could slide across.

With 1:28 remaining in regulation, Brodeur made a spectacular right pad save on Christian Backman's slap shot to preserve the tie.

In a combative and intense first period, Zubrus opened the scoring on the power play at the 6:05 mark. With Michal Rozsival serving a minor penalty for high-sticking, the Devils did an tremendous job of working the puck down below the goal line, where Michael Rupp dished to Zubrus cutting through the slot. Zubrus cradled the feed and beat Lundqvist high to the stick side for his 12th tally of the season.

Straka nearly tied the score for New York on a breakaway, but Brodeur made a blocker save with 2:50 to go in the opening frame.

Emotions remained high in a scoreless second period in which the Rangers held a 9-4 edge in shots. Defenseman Fedor Tyutin had a chance for the Rangers, but his shot ricocheted off the far post.
