NHL Game Summary - Columbus at Detroit

Final Score: Columbus 1 - Detroit 3

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Henrik Zetterberg registered a natural hat trick in the third period to help the Detroit Red Wings down the Columbus Blue Jackets, 3-1, at Joe Louis Arena.

Chris Osgood stopped 22-of-23 shots for the Red Wings, who snapped a two-game skid.

"It's always fun (hat trick), especially since we got the win, too," Zetterberg said. "We lost two in a row so we needed this win. We know tomorrow is going to be a tough game for us." Detroit travels to Nashville to battle the Predators on Thursday.

Detroit leads the Western Conference with 102 points.

Manny Malhotra scored the lone goal for the Blue Jackets, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Fredrik Norrena allowed three goals on 27 shots in defeat.

"We made a couple of mistakes and they wound up in the net," Columbus coach Ken Hitchcock said.

Zetterberg scored three unanswered goals in the third period to notch the third hat trick of his career. He knotted the score at one when he knifed his way through the Columbus defense and slipped the disc between the legs of Norrena at the 6:43 mark.

With Columbus' Rostislav Klesla in the penalty box for tripping, Zetterberg fired a shot from the left circle that beat Norrena with 1:54 remaining. The Swede completed the trifecta 35 seconds later when he stole the puck in the neutral zone, skated around Norrena, who came out of his crease to poke check, and shot the puck into the empty net.

The Blue Jackets converted on their fourth power play of the game to open the scoring at the 7:05 mark of the second period. Malhotra picked up a loose puck in front and buried it behind Osgood for his fifth tally in his last three games.
