Final Score: Phoenix 4 - Edmonton 8

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Sam Gagner registered a goal and two assists, as the Edmonton Oilers thumped the Phoenix Coyotes, 8-4, at Rexall Place.

Tom Gilbert, Robert Nilsson and Kyle Brodziak each posted a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who are 10-2-0 in their last 12 games. Curtis Glencross scored two goals and Ales Hemsky collected three assists. Dwayne Roloson, making his third consecutive start after Mathieu Garon started the previous 17 contests, stopped 30-of-34 shots to pick up his 11th victory of the season.

Derek Morris had a goal and two assists for the Coyotes, who have dropped three in a row. Peter Mueller, Shane Doan and Daniel Winnik each finished with a goal and an assist. Ilya Bryzgalov allowed three goals on 11 shots before Mikael Tellqvist took over at the start of the second period. Tellqvist was victimized for four goals on 24 shots.

Edmonton currently sits 10th in the Western Conference, five points behind Vancouver, Calgary and Colorado for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Phoenix is seven points back in the race for the postseason.

Trailing by a goal heading into the third period, the Coyotes' power play knotted the score at four. At 4:07 of the final frame, Edmonton's Steve Staios was assessed a holding penalty and Mueller lit the lamp nine seconds into the man advantage when his shot deflected off the stick of Gilbert before bouncing off the right pad of Roloson and trickling across the goal line.

Edmonton regained the lead with a power-play tally of its own, as Dustin Penner lofted a shot over the left pad of Tellqvist at 7:32. Glencross then tallied twice in a 3:05 span to make it 7-4 and Jarret Stoll added a short- handed empty-net marker with 3:04 remaining to account for the final score.

Morris let a shot goal from the point past a screened Roloson to open the scoring at the 4:13 mark of the first period, but Edmonton answered right back 12 seconds later on Gilbert's 11th tally of the season. The Coyotes regained the advantage when Doan picked the top corner over the glove hand of Roloson with a backhander at 8:20.

Edmonton notched a pair of power-play goals late in the frame to forge ahead 3-2. After Gagner buried a rebound, tying the score at two, Nilsson took a cross-ice pass from Hemsky and drilled the puck into the net before Bryzgalov could get across.

While down a man, Brodziak put the Oilers up 4-2 when he cradled a pass from Andrew Cogliano and ripped a shot high over the glove of Tellqvist at 5:10 of the second period.

The Coyotes drew within 4-3 when Winnik collected a rebound in front and beat Roloson on the short side with 63 seconds remaining in the middle stanza.
