NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Anaheim

Final Score: St. Louis 2 - Anaheim 5

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Rob Niedermayer scored twice in the third period as the Anaheim Ducks downed the St. Louis Blues, 5-2, at the Honda Center.

Mathieu Schneider had a goal and two assists while Teemu Selanne added a goal and an assist for the Ducks, who have won three of their last four games.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 38 shots for Anaheim, which, combined with Dallas' loss earlier on Saturday to Vancouver, moved the team into the fourth spot in the Western Conference.

"Jiggy made some great saves," said Schneider. "If it wasn't for his performance, we would have been in a much tougher spot."

It was Anaheim's ninth straight win at home, which is a new franchise record.

Before the game, Ducks defenseman Chris Pronger was suspended eight games without pay for an incident in the team's game on Wednesday against Vancouver.

The incident happened after Pronger became entangled with Canucks forward Ryan Kesler, who had fallen to the ice. Pronger brought his skate down on Kesler -- though no penalty was assessed at the time, and no injury occurred to Kesler.

Jeff Woywitka had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who have dropped their past six games. Manny Legace stopped 28 shots in the loss.

The Ducks had twice given up one-goal leads, but the team took the lead for good at the 4:08 mark of the third period.

Anaheim got the puck into the St. Louis end, but the puck was bouncing around before Niedermayer grabbed it and slipped a quick wrister over the glove of Legace for a 3-2 lead.

The Ducks padded their cushion seven minutes later as Niedermayer netted his second goal of the game on a tip-in from the left side for his eighth goal of the season.

Ryan Getzlaf's goal with 1:38 to play wrapped up the scoring in the game.

"It's a joke is what it is," said the Blues' Erik Johnson of his club's effort during their skid. "It's not something our team is about. It's really too tough to bear."

The Ducks got on the scoreboard in the latter stages of the first period. On the fly, Selanne skated down the right wing and from the point dished a little backhand feed to Schneider, who let fly with a backhander into the left corner with 53 seconds left in the frame.

Giguere made seven stops in the first period to keep St. Louis off the board.

The Blues tied the game just 1:57 into the second period. Giguere attempted to clear a dump-in, but Jay McClement picked off the puck along the right boards. His shot was stopped Giguere, but the rebound went out front and Jamal Mayers banged home the disc.

Anaheim regained the lead with a power-play goal. Schneider blasted a shot from the high point that hit off a player in front and went to the left side where Selanne knocked it in with 4:50 left in the second.

St. Louis tied the game again just 54 seconds into the third period. Woywitka blasted a shot from the left point that hit off the stick of a Duck player than caromed off the skate of Anaheim's Samuel Pahlsson before getting past Giguere.
