St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Niklas Backstrom stopped all 24 shots he faced to post his third shutout of the season, as Minnesota shut down Los Angeles, 2-0, at Xcel Energy Center.

Brian Rolston and Marian Gaborik tallied for the Wild, who snapped a five-game losing streak and vaulted into a tie with Colorado, which lost to New Jersey earlier Saturday, for first place in the Northwest Division.

Erik Ersberg was solid in defeat, making 27 stops for the Kings, who have dropped three of four.

After more than half the game passed without a goal, the Wild finally hit the scoreboard when Rolston managed to jam a loose puck through Ersberg's outstretched pad with 5:49 left in the second period.

Gaborik gave Minnesota breathing room with a little more than four minutes left in the contest, finishing off a 2-on-1 with a top-shelf wrister.

"The defensemen are trying to pinch off at the point, and what happened on the second goal is the guy just got by," said Kings forward Anxe Kopitar on the sequence which led to the score. "He (Gaborik) doesn't need a lot of chances to put the puck in the net. We battled hard and it's a real good team over there."

The Slovakian recorded his 200th career goal on the effort, all coming over his seven-year career with the franchise.

"It's special, especially to score and win the game," said Gaborik. "We haven't won in a while and it's two points for us.
