NHL Game Summary - Pittsburgh at Boston

Final Score: Pittsburgh 1 - Boston 5

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Marco Sturm's two-goal performance helped the Boston Bruins trounce the Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-1, at TD Banknorth Garden.

Zdeno Chara, P.J. Axelsson and David Krejci also scored for the Bruins, who extended their winning streak to a season-high five games. Marc Savard, Glen Metropolit and Chuck Kobasew each collected two assists, while Tim Thomas stopped 27-of-28 shots to earn his 22 win of the season.

"Our guys have just pulled together," said Bruins coach Claude Julien, who has seen his team earn 13 out of a possible 14 points in its last seven contests. "We're definitely playing with some emotion, playing with some purpose."

Pascal Dupuis had the lone goal for the Penguins, who have dropped three of four. Ty Conklin, coming off a career-best 50-save performance against the Islanders on Tuesday, was pulled after allowing three goals on 13 shots. Marc-Andre Fleury, making his first appearance since sustaining a high-right- ankle sprain during the Pens 3-2 win at Calgary on December 6, took over between the pipes and finished the game with 16 saves.

Marian Hossa's debut with the Penguins was not a memorable one. The right winger suffered an MCL strain following a knee-on-knee collision with Boston's Glen Murray in the second period and did not return.

"It is disappointing," Hossa said. "Especially after the way we started. I felt comfortable with my linemates. We had some good shifts at the start. But unfortunately this is the business we are in and injuries happen. It's just tough luck."

Pittsburgh acquired Hossa and Dupuis on Tuesday from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for forwards Colby Armstrong and Erik Christensen, prospect Angelo Esposito and a first-round pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft.

With all the news swirling around Hossa and the Penguins before the game, it were the Bruins, thanks to a pair of goals from Sturm, holding a 2-0 lead after the first period.

Boston opened the scoring at the 9:49 mark when Sturm went to the front of the net and redirected Kobasew's shot from the left point through the legs of Conklin.

Less than three minutes later, Sturm uncoiled a slapshot from the top of the left circle that zipped past the glove of Conklin, who had taken a poor angle on the play. It was Sturm's 200th goal of his NHL career.

Boston extended its lead to 3-0 at 2:21 of the second, as Chara's blast from the point deflected off Pittsburgh's Petr Sykora in the high slot and past the catching glove of a bewildered Conklin, who was subsequently replaced by Fleury.

Axelsson lit the lamp with 3:59 remaining to give the Bruins a commanding 4-0 lead. Savard took a huge hit in the right corner from Pittsburgh's Kris Letang, but managed to negate an icing call. Shawn Thornton, following up the play, whipped the puck into the slot, where Axelsson tipped it in behind Fleury. With the secondary assist, Savard reached 400 for his NHL career.

Dupuis ruined the shutout bid with 6:57 to go in the third, and Krejci's power-play marker accounted for the final score.
