St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 41-of-42 shots, as the Phoenix Coyotes held off the St. Louis Blues to win, 2-1, at Scottrade Center.
Ed Jovanovski and Niko Kapanen scored first-period goals for the Coyotes, who have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the teams.
Ryan Johnson tallied the only goal for St. Louis, which has lost five in a row. Manny Legace got the loss after allowing both goals on 28 shots.
St. Louis opened the scoring at the 15:13 mark in the first period. Johnson skated in on net, faked Bryzgalov out, and scored on the forehand.
But Phoenix came right back with a pair of power-play tallies. With 2:39 left in the period, Jovanovski blasted a slap shot from the right point that beat the Legace glove-side.
Less then a minute later, Kapanen fired a slap shot from the blue line that went over the blocker of Legace to give Phoenix a 2-1 lead.
In the second period, Bryzgalov stopped all 14 shots that he faced and Legace was solid in stopping eight.
Both goaltenders remained strong in the third period, as neither team could light the lamp. Legace stopped 11 shots and Bryzgalov stopped 12, securing the win for Phoenix.
St. Louis pulled Legace in favor of a sixth attacker with just over a minute left to play, but was unable to generate a goal.
