NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Dallas

Final Score: Chicago 4 - Dallas 7

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Niklas Hagman recorded his first career hat trick as the Dallas Stars roughed up the Chicago Blackhawks, 7-4, at American Airlines Center.

Newly acquired Brad Richards tallied five assists while Mike Modano and Trevor Daley each added a goal and an assist for the Stars, who have won four straight and six of their last seven games.

Dallas received Richards and goaltender Johan Holmqvist from Tampa Bay before Tuesday's deadline and sent goaltender Mike Smith, forwards Jussi Jokinen and Jeff Halpern and a fourth-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft to the Lightning.

"It's an exciting start," said Richards. "I was so nervous and I wanted so badly to fit in and keep this thing going. I'm so happy to be here, it was great to have a game like this and hopefully the expectations aren't set too high."

Marty Turco stopped 25 shots for Dallas, which has 87 points, eight ahead of Anaheim for first place in the Pacific Division, and trails Detroit by three points for the top spot overall in the league.

Rene Bourque had a pair of shorthanded goals for the Blackhawks, who have dropped two of their last three games. Patrick Lalime started in net, but was pulled after giving up five goals on 13 shots. Corey Crawford finished the game between the pipes and gave up two goals on 12 shots.

"We mad three mental mistakes in the second but we battled and played hard," said Chicago coach Denis Savard. "When you make those types of mistakes against a team like Dallas it ends up in the back of the net. At this level here you can't make any mental mistakes cause it ends up in the back of your net."

Chicago got the first goal of the game as Dustin Byfuglien scored his 13th goal of the year at the 4:08 mark of the first period.

However, Dallas scored five unanswered goals to take control of the game.

Just 49 seconds after Byfuglien's goal, Richards fired a pass from the left point to the low right side where Hagman redirected the puck into the net.

At the halfway mark of the frame, Modano grabbed a loose puck at the right circle, skated to the slot and snapped a wrister into the left corner of the net.

Hagman got his second goal of the game just 2:47 into the second period and Loui Eriksson made it a 4-1 game a bit less than two minutes later.

Daley then made it a 5-1 game at the 6:34 mark of the second as his wrister from the slot beat Lalime, who was pulled from the net after the goal and was replaced by Crawford.

The Blackhawks cut the deficit to 5-2 at the 4:25 mark of the third period as Bourque skated in on a breakaway and rifled a shot between the pads of Turco for a shorthanded tally.

However, Dallas got the goal back just 1:30 later as Richards sent a pass from the right circle to the slot where Hagman tipped the puck into the net to complete the hat trick.

Andrew Ladd again made it a three-goal game as his wrister got past Turco at the 9:20 mark of the third.

Jere Lehtinen, though, scored his 12th goal of the season with a power-play tally at the 16:49 mark before Bourque scored another shorthanded goal with 1:45 to play to cap the scoring.
