NHL Game Summary - NY Islanders at New Jersey

Final Score: NY Islanders 2 - New Jersey 4

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Zach Parise and Brian Gionta tallied in the third period to lift New Jersey over the New York Islanders, 4-2, at Prudential Center.

Patrik Elias and John Madden also scored for the Devils, winners of four straight games and six of seven. Martin Brodeur won his 34th game of the season with a 19-save effort plus an assist.

Josef Vasicek and Ruslan Fedotenko scored for the Islanders, whose six-game win streak came to an end. Rick DiPietro allowed four goals on 42 shots.

"We're still not where we want to be. we're still out of the playoff race right now," DiPietro noted. "Today was a big game, we weren't able to get the job done. We get another chance versus pittsburgh tuesday night."

Parise put the Devils ahead 2 1/2 minutes into the third, taking a long lead pass off the boards from Travis Zajac, rushing up the middle and slipping a shot home low along the ice. Brodeur set up the play in his own zone by clearing ahead to Zajac.

Gionta then scored a trademark goal, putting the rebound home off Colin White's point shot from the top of the crease a little more than two minutes later for a two-goal edge.

From there, New Jersey protected the lead with a steady flow of offense, outshooting the Islanders 20-4 through the final 20 minutes.

"We really kept in simple," Brodeur said. "We dumped the puck a lot, we cycled a lot, we had a lot of good chances off it (cycling the puck down low). I thought we dominated that third period and that made a big difference."

Vasicek put the Isles up at 7:55, when he tipped home Andy Hilbert's shot from the left circle in traffic at the left side of the crease.

The Devils knotted the game on their second power play chance, when Johnny Oduya cranked a shot home from the bottom of the right circle. The puck nicked Elias on the way in at 10:16.

New Jersey went up 2-1 just 1:20 later when Madden's attempted dish on a 2- on-1 short-handed break deflected off Miroslav Satan's stick and popped over DiPietro.

Fedotenko drew the visitors even 1:53 into the second, when he slipped a long shot from the right circle past Brodeur on the short side.
