NHL Game Summary - Columbus at Ottawa

Final Score: Columbus 3 - Ottawa 2

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Rick Nash earned the game-winner in the shootout, as Columbus picked up a surprising 3-2 victory over Ottawa at Scotiabank Place.

Nash also tallied in regulation as did Sergei Fedorov for the Blue Jackets, who won for just the second time in the last six.

Pascal Leclaire made 27 saves for the win.

"Sometimes when a team scores so early the way they did tonight, it can take some steam out of your bench, but we stuck with it and as the first period went on we knew we could battle back," said Nash. "It says a lot about the character of our hockey team."

Cory Stillman and Andrej Meszaros scored for the Senators, who have dropped four of five, but remain one point ahead of Montreal in the Northeast Division. The Canadiens fell to Pittsburgh, 5-4, on Thursday.

Ray Emery fell to 11-11-3 on the season despite allowing two goals on 24 shots.

"You're never happy unless you get the two points, but I felt that we played a strong game and generated enough chances to win," said Dany Heatley. "We'd like to score more, but some nights the game doesn't go that way and tonight was an example of that."

Ottawa got going early, as Stillman tapped home a loose puck from the right side of the net just 35 seconds into the contest. It was his first goal for the club since coming over from Carolina last week.

Nash got the equalizer for Columbus at 4:07 of the second period with his 32nd goal of the season, but the Sens went back on top by one at 11:28 when Meszaros' power-play shot from the point crossed up Leclaire and bounced behind him.

Fedorov's ninth of the year at the 5:28 mark of the third period drew Columbus into a 2-2 deadlock, as the veteran center buried a short-side shot from the left circle.
