NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Edmonton

Final Score: Chicago 1 - Edmonton 4

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Joni Pitkanen had a goal and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers surged past the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-1, at Rexall Place.

Jarret Stoll, Dustin Penner and Ethan Moreau also scored for the Oilers, who wrapped up a four-game homestand with a 2-2-0 mark. Mathieu Garon ended with 40 saves in the victory.

"We're taking a lot of pride in the way we're playing the game right now," said Moreau. "We're doing things right. Stortz (Zach Stortini) goes out and sets the tone again tonight. We feed off that and we play another solid game. And Matty's (Mathieu Garon) playing great, special teams are good so things are falling into place."

Patrick Sharp had the lone tally and Patrick Lalime turned aside 23-of-27 shots for Chicago, which was making its third stop in a season-high seven-game road trip. The Blackhawks are 0-4-1 since winning four in a row from January 13-19, and are just 4-10-3 in their last 17 contests.

Chicago got the only goal of the first period, and it came with just 43 seconds remaining as the club skated on the power play. Duncan Keith rifled a shot from the point that was tipped home by Sharp on its way to the net, giving the speedy forward his 24th goal of the campaign.

Edmonton struck on the man-advantage and tied it early in the second, as Ales Hemsky fed Stoll at the left circle and he one-timed a slap shot that sailed past Lalime low on the blocker side.

Then, 8:10 into the period and with Edmonton on its fourth power play, Sam Gagner fed the puck to Penner, who backhanded it in front of the net and scored on a deflection.

Just 34 seconds later, Moreau stuffed home a feed from in close and made it a 3-1 game.

The rout continued in the third, as Pitkanen found open space, and from the top left circle, blasted a slap shot over Lalime's glove and just under the crossbar 51 seconds in.

The Blackhawks had 21 shots in the third period, but failed to solve Garon.

"They weren't all perimeter shots," said Chicago defenseman James Wisniewski. "We had good scoring opportunities, we got rebounds, we had guys in front of the net. Our power play was working fine, we were passing the puck around and good shots on net and we just didn't capitalize, we didn't bury and that's how you lose."
