Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Jarome Iginla tied the game with 8.2 seconds remaining in regulation and scored the game-winner in the shootout, as the Calgary Flames erased a three-goal, third-period deficit and rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at the Saddledome.

Dion Phaneuf scored twice for Calgary, which halted a two-game skid and won for the fifth time in their last seven games overall. Miikka Kiprusoff made 20 saves in the win.

Peter Mueller recorded a natural hat trick for the Coyotes, who earned at least a point for seventh time in their last eight games (4-1-3).

Ilya Bryzgalov allowed three goals on 38 shots for Phoenix.

The Flames entered the third period facing a 3-0 deficit, but two goals by Phaneuf brought Calgary back to life. After his power-play tally at the 7:01 mark, Phaneuf struck again with 6:01 remaining in the third. Anders Eriksson took the puck around the net and sent it to Phaneuf at the top of the left circle. Phaneuf's slap shot was slowed heavily when his stick shattered upon impact, and the change of speed fooled Bryzgalov as the puck slid under his pads for Phaneuf's ninth goal.

"We had some good pressure, we just kept coming," said Iginla. "That power- play goal (by Phaneuf) was the big boost for us. We felt that if we got one, we could get back into the game."

Kiprusoff was pulled inside the final minute in favor of the extra attacker, and it worked when Iginla lit the lamp at the 19:51 mark. Robyn Regehr held control at the left point and slid a pass to Iginla inside the near circle. Iginla corralled the puck, spun around and buried a high wrister as the home crowd erupted.

"It was a nice play by (Regehr) to keep it (inside the zone)," Iginla said. "I just tried to turn around and shoot. Sometimes the ones you don't expect to go in find their way."

After a scoreless overtime, the first four skaters in the shootout failed to score and Iginla used a successful backhand deke move to beat Bryzgalov. Steve Reinprecht was then stoned by Kiprusoff and the Flames skated off with the 4-3 comeback victory.

"(This loss) is tough to explain, said Mueller. "It just seemed like we stood back when they came out hard in the third. We need to play the final 20 minutes just as hard as we played the first 40 minutes."

Mueller opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the game before his second goal of the night at the 10:51 mark of the second gave the visitors a two-goal edge. Zbynek Michalek skated with the puck behind the net along the rear boards before he centered it into the goal mouth. The disc bounced off the skate of Calgary defenseman Cory Sarich and directly to Mueller, who punched it into the back of the cage.

With 1:05 to play before the second intermission, Mueller completed his hat trick. An errant centering pass by the Flames from deep in their offensive zone allowed the Coyotes to gain an odd-man rush the other way. Joel Perrault held control down the left-wing side and centered it for a successful redirection from Mueller atop the crease.
