NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at NY Islanders

Final Score: Anaheim 3 - NY Islanders 0

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 25 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season and 29th of his career, as the Anaheim Ducks blanked the New York Islanders, 3-0, at Nassau Coliseum.

Scott Niedermayer, Todd Marchant and Doug Weight scored for Anaheim, which had dropped its last six outings.

Teemu Selanne, who quelled talk of retirement by agreeing to a one-year contract with Anaheim on January 28, made his 2007-08 debut, fittingly at the same place where he played his first game for Anaheim 12 years earlier during his first stint with the Ducks. On February 10, 1996, Selanne notched a goal in the Ducks' 4-3 setback to the Islanders.

Selanne registered an assist and four shots in 18 minutes of ice time.

"We're pretty excited about Teemu being back," said Giguere. "Not only is he an unbelievable player who's going to score some big goals for us, he's a great individual, he's just awesome in the room. He's going to put a lot of life in the dressing room."

Rick DiPietro yielded three goals on 26 shots for the Islanders, who have lost five straight and are 4-8-4 in their last 16 games. New York has not won at home since a 5-2 decision over New Jersey on December 29, a span of seven games.

"Our effort was better tonight I thought, it's just still not where it needs to be," said New York's Bill Guerin. "It's just little stuff, guys are working hard, everybody worked hard tonight. It's just little stuff like getting in front of the net for our defense and just making the play."

The Ducks had three power plays, including a two-man advantage for 34 seconds in the opening 20 minutes, but failed to score. Each club generated eight shots, but both goalies were perfect between the pipes.

While up a man, Niedermayer opened the scoring at 2:36 of the middle frame when his one-timer from the right circle slid between the legs of DiPietro.

The tally was the first for Anaheim since Corey Perry lit the lamp at the 9:40 mark of the second period during the team's 5-1 loss at Minnesota on January 30th, a span of 177 minutes and 56 seconds. The Ducks were shut out in back- to-back games by St. Louis and Philadelphia.

Anaheim pulled ahead 2-0 at 2:51 of the third, as Marchant's backhander from the right circle found room on the short side.

Weight's marker at 7:34 gave the Ducks a commanding 3-0 lead. With the Islanders mesmerized by the puck, Todd Bertuzzi spotted Weight coming down the slot and made a perfect pass from the right corner that Weight banged home for his ninth goal of the season.
