NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Colorado

Final Score: Phoenix 4 - Colorado 3

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Radim Vrbata scored with 1:37 remaining in overtime to lift the Phoenix Coyotes to a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.

In the extra session, Shane Doan and Vrbata worked a give-and-go and Vrbata's backhander was stopped by Peter Budaj. However, Budaj was unable to corral the puck, and as players crashed the net, the puck slid through the goaltender's legs and trickled across the goal line. The goal was upheld following a video review.

Vrbata also tallied the game-tying marker for the Coyotes, who snapped a two- game losing streak. Doan collected two assists and Mikael Tellqvist, making his first start since January 17, stopped 33-of-36 shots for the win.

"He (Tellqvist) played really well tonight," said Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky. "I am a believer in two goalies. Telly will get his games. It was great for him to get the win tonight."

T.J. Hensick scored twice and Budaj allowed four goals on 33 shots for the Avalanche, who have dropped four of six. Tyler Arnason added two assists in defeat.

"The opportunity is there for me with all these injuries," said Hensick. "I'm getting time on the power play. It's exciting getting two goals in each of these last two games."

With the score locked at two and the Avs on the power play, a mad scramble ensued in front of Tellqvist and Hensick appeared to have scored, but play continued until there was 8:28 left on the clock.

The official reviewed the play and it was determined that Phoenix's Keith Ballard blocked the shot from behind the goal line. The goal came at 9:52 of the third.

Phoenix tied the game with 3:11 remaining when Steve Reinprecht won a faceoff from the left circle and quickly dished to Vrbata at the front for an easy tap-in.

Hensick opened the scoring with 2:12 remaining in the first. While up a man, Arnason threaded a feed through the goal mouth and the legs of Fredrik Sjostrom to the left side of the net, where Hensick shot the puck behind Tellqvist.

Phoenix answered back 1:13 seconds later on Peter Mueller's 16th goal of the season. With the Coyotes enjoying a two-man advantage, Mueller unleashed a slap shot from the top of the left circle that found room on the short side.

Daniel Winnik put the Coyotes ahead 2-1 at the 5:04 mark of the second when he tapped in Matt Murley's centering feed from the right corner behind Budaj.

The Avalanche tied the game with 5:11 left in the stanza. Brad Richardson spotted Ian Laperriere driving hard to the net and made a perfect, lead pass from the middle of the left circle that Laperriere snapped over Tellqvist.
