Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Niklas Hagman's early-third-period goal was the difference, as Dallas clipped Calgary, 2-1, at Pengrowth Saddledome.
Brenden Morrow also scored for the Stars, who have taken three straight games and moved back into first place in the Pacific Division. San Jose had tied Dallas earlier Saturday with a 3-2 shootout win over Chicago.
Marty Turco made 31 saves to record his 22nd win of the season.
Daymond Langkow lit the lamp for the Flames, whose four-game win streak ended. Miikka Kiprusoff took the loss despite a 22-save effort.
On the game-winner, Stars defenseman Mattias Norstrom sent a dump-in behind the net from the left wing to the right. Hagman collected the disc, wheeled in front, and fired high to the near post. The puck sailed through a small opening between the post, crossbar and Kiprusoff's body at the 2:28 mark.
The defenses tightened on both sides from that point, and there were only nine combined shots over the final 20 minutes of play. Kiprusoff went to the bench with under a minute to go, but the Flames could not generate a quality chance with the extra attacker.
"You never know what's going to make a difference in the game, you make one save at the right time and it manages to turn the game around," said Turco. "That's the way it is for a goaltender in this league."
Langkow put the Flames on the board at 5:37 of the second period. Jarome Iginla led a 3-on-2 rush up the middle, then dished to Alex Tanguay coming down the left wing. His shot from the circle bounced off Turco's pad right to Langkow, for the easy tap-in from the edge of the crease.
Morrow knotted the contest with 6:13 to play in the second. Mike Ribeiro carried down the left side, snuck in front of a Calgary defender, and let a shot go from the circle which hit Morrow in front and trickled between Kiprusoff's arm and body.
"We had a lot of chances, some really good ones in close," Iginla noted. "Turco played well, we hit some posts, that's part of it. You get seven power- play chances and don't score on them, that's the difference. You just need to carry on and keep working, get in front of the net and make the most of your chances."
