Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Dan Ellis stopped 38 shots to record the fourth shutout of his career, as the Nashville Predators blanked the Colorado Avalanche, 4-0, at the Pepsi Center.
Martin Erat scored two goals for the Predators, who have won three straight and registered at least a point in seven of their last eight games. Shea Weber had a goal and an assist, while Ryan Suter collected two helpers.
"Anytime you get early shots on you, you get the feel for the puck and get confidence," said Ellis. "Our defense did a great job tonight allowing me to see the puck and box out. That is really working for us right now."
Jose Theodore, making his ninth consecutive start, allowed all four goals on 29 shots for the Avalanche, who lost in regulation for the first time since January 9th. Colorado had recorded a point in its last five games, going 4-0-1.
"We've been playing very well before this game," said Theodore. "We got to be aware that we have to play with our system, be aware to play smart hockey, starting with the defense and then to offense."
Colorado outshot the Predators, 15-10, in the first period, but trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard.
Early in the frame, Brett Clark was called for holding. During the power play, Suter threw the puck across to the left point, where Weber one-timed the puck behind Theodore.
Nashville scored on their first two shots of the third to extend the lead to 3-0.
Jason Arnott set up shop behind Theodore and threw the puck out to Erat at the bottom of the left circle. With Martin Gelinas driving to the net, Erat snapped the puck through traffic and the puck squeezed through the left arm and torso of Theodore 59 seconds into the frame.
The Predators lit the lamp again at the 2:19 mark on Alexander Radulov's 16th goal of the season. J.P. Dumont collected the primary assist to extend his franchise and career-best point streak to 13 games (eight goals, 10 assists).
While up a man, Erat snapped a wrister from the side of the left circle past Theodore to give the Predators a commanding 4-0 lead less than six minutes into the third.
