San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Christian Ehrhoff posted a goal and an assist, as the San Jose Sharks snapped a season-long four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks at HP Pavilion.
Sandis Ozolinsh and Joe Pavelski also tallied for the Sharks, who have won nine straight and 10 of the last 11 against Chicago. Chicago hasn't defeated San Jose since October 7, 2005. Evgeni Nabokov made 28 saves to record his 26th win of the season.
"We still have another game before the all-star break but we had to find a way to win tonight and we did it in an ugly way," said Sharks coach Ron Wilson. "We wanted to be a little more aggressive. We got caught back on our heals, they were coming at us hard but we got our equilibrium about half way through the first period. Fortunately, our power play and penalty killing was doing a great job and that decided the outcome of the game."
Jack Skille and Adam Burish lit the lamp for the Blackhawks, who had a four- game winning streak broken. Patrick Lalime, making his fifth consecutive start, allowed three goals on 23 shots in defeat.
"We played (well) enough to win but the results are not there," said Lalime. "We've just got to get back on track and win at home the next game."
Skille opened the scoring at 4:49 of the first when he slid a rebound underneath a sprawled Nabokov. Ozolinsh's power-play goal with 6:21 remaining tied the game at one.
In the second period, San Jose scored two goals in a 2:44 span to build a 3-1 lead.
While killing a penalty, Pavelski outraced Chicago's Patrick Kane to a loose puck, drove to the net and lifted a backhander past Lalime for the team's fifth short-handed goal of the season. The tally came with 6:46 to play in the frame.
Then, while on the power play, Ehrhoff wound up from the point and one-timed a feed from Matt Carle past Lalime, who was screened by Joe Thornton on the play, for his first goal of the season.
Chicago trimmed the margin to 3-2 with 8:42 remaining in the third. Burish used his speed to break in alone and beat Nabokov on the stick side for the first goal of his NHL career.
With 2:20 remaining in regulation, Chicago's Martin Havlat was assessed a minor penalty for holding, forcing Lalime to stay between the pipes. Lalime was finally lifted for an extra skater with under 25 seconds to play, but Chicago wasn't able to net the equalizer.
