NHL Game Summary - Boston at NY Rangers

Final Score: Boston 3 - NY Rangers 1

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Chuck Kobasew posted a goal and an assist, as the Boston Bruins swept a home-and-home set from the New York Rangers with a 3-1 victory at Madison Square Garden.

On Saturday, Boston defeated the Rangers 4-3 in a shootout at TD Banknorth Garden.

Glen Metropolit and Phil Kessel also scored for the Bruins, who have won two straight and three of four overall. Marc Savard collected two assists and Tim Thomas made 30 saves for Boston, which recorded a regulation win for the first time since January 5.

"Timmy was unbelievable," said Savard. "We played a great team game."

Brandon Dubinsky lit the lamp and Henrik Lundqvist allowed three goals on 20 shots for the Rangers, who have dropped two straight and three of four overall.

"We're not working hard enough," said New York's Brendan Shanahan. "We're beating ourselves."

New York had the lead in shots, 12-4, but trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard after the first period.

With Metropolit in the box for holding, Kobasew snapped a wrister from the top of the right circle that beat Lundqvist on the short side with 2:07 remaining. It was Kobasew's team-leading 17th goal and third short-handed tally of the season.

Thomas made 11 saves and Lundqvist stopped all seven shots fired his way in a scoreless middle stanza.

In the third period, the Bruins grabbed on a 2-0 lead on Metropolit's eighth marker of the season. Lundqvist stopped Kobasew's wraparound attempt, but the Rangers failed to clear the puck and a goalmouth scrambled ensued. Metropolit then jumped on a loose puck, pulled it to the forehand and tucked it past the sprawling netminder at 2:04.

Kessel made it a 3-0 game with 2:59 remaining when he collected a rebound between the circles and beat Lundqvist on the stick side.

Dubinsky spoiled Thomas' bid for his sixth career shutout with 44 seconds left.
