NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Minnesota

Final Score: Calgary 3 - Minnesota 2

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Kristian Huselius and Jarome Iginla scored in the shootout, lifting the Calgary Flames over the Minnesota Wild, 3-2, at Xcel Energy Center.

Huselius gave Calgary the edge when he deked and scored through the five-hole of Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom to open the shootout. Iginla then sealed the win in the final round when he moved in tight and snapped a shot over the netminder's glove.

Huselius and David Moss also scored in regulation, and Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 29-of-31 shots for the Flames, who snapped a four-game skid.

"We didn't play well the last few games," said Iginla. "We were trying to stop it and get some momentum going. These are almost the games that...they're (big) games and you want them. It's huge momentum. It's big. We knew it was going to be a tough game. We played hard and had a couple plays that we felt were difficult and didn't quite agree with in the second period, but that's part of hockey. As a group we stayed with it and got better."

Brent Burns and Kurtis Foster each tallied, and Backstrom also ended with 29 saves for the Wild, who had a three-game win streak halted.

Both teams played a fairly lackluster and scoreless first period, ending even in shots at 7-7.

Moss then broke the deadlock at 12:37 of the second, as he played the puck off the wall to Backstrom's left. Moss then slid in the behind the defense, collected the feed from Alex Tanguay and backhanded the puck into the cage.

Minnesota tied it up on a power play, with 1:54 remaining in the stanza. Burns collected the puck at the right point, turned and ripped a shot past Kiprusoff to make it 1-1.

The Flames then pulled ahead on the power play a little more than a minute into the third, as Huselius knocked home a rebound from the doorstep to make it 2-1.

The Wild once again had the answer as Foster rifled a shot from the point that beat Kiprusoff clean at 4:35. It was Foster's third goal of the season.

Huselius had the most promising chance to win the game in overtime, but with 26.4 seconds left, his long slap shot was swallowed by Backstrom. Huselius then ended up in the penalty box following a slashing call with 7.9 remaining, but it wasn't enough time for Calgary to work with.

"You always want to win," said Minnesota head coach Jacques Lemaire. "Myself, I think we could've played a little better. I think as the game went on we got better, but I just felt that in the first period we had some power plays and we didn't take advantage of it."
