NHL Game Summary - Toronto at San Jose

Final Score: Toronto 2 - San Jose 3

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Patrick Marleau posted a goal and an assist, as the San Jose Sharks scored three third-period goals to down the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2, at the HP Pavilion.

Craig Rivet and Joe Pavelski also scored, and Joe Thornton added two assists for the Sharks, who concluded a four-game homestand with a 3-0-1 record. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 23-of-25 shots to earn the win.

"The worm had turned for us halfway through the second period," said San Jose coach Ron Wilson. "We were getting our scoring chances, but (Vesa) Toskala was playing unbelievable. Going into the third with a power-play was huge for us as long as we got the job done out there, and we did."

Nik Antropov and Pavel Kubina lit the lamp for Toronto, which has dropped five straight and eight of nine overall. Toskala, who was traded by San Jose to Toronto last June, made 32 saves in his first game against his former team.

"Good teams like San Jose will come back if you give them a chance," said Toskala. "It's pretty frustrating. We need points badly so we can get back in the playoff race."

San Jose scored three unanswered goals in the third to forge ahead 3-2.

The Sharks gained momentum on Marleau's power-play goal at 1:09 of the third, which trimmed the deficit in half, 2-1. Marleau's laser from the point glanced off a Maple Leaf player and slid between the legs of Toskala.

Later, courtesy of a 5-on-3 power-play tally, San Jose tied the game at two. Rivet wired a slapper from the top of the slot behind Toskala at 8:31.

A perfect tip by Pavelski at the edge of the crease on a Jonathan Cheechoo shot from the left circle gave the Sharks a 3-2 lead with 9:39 remaining.

Late in the regulation, Toronto pulled Toskala in favor of an extra skater, but its last-ditch effort fell short, as San Jose held on for the win.

Antropov gave the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead at the 3:19 mark of the first.

Early in the second, San Jose's Marcel Goc was called for hooking and Toronto capitalized on the power play to go up 2-0. Kubina entered the offensive zone uncontested and fired a hard, low shot from the right circle through the five- hole of Nabokov.
