New York, NY (Sports Network) - Petr Prucha notched a goal and one assist, and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 18 shots as the New York Rangers clipped Montreal, 4-1, at Madison Square Garden.

Chris Drury, Martin Straka and Nigel Dawes also scored for the Rangers, who halted a season-high five-game losing streak.

"It just shows when we play like that as a team," Lundqvist said. "Tonight we just kept it going. You can talk so much (about the losing streak) and the concept is, you have to just go out there and perform. We had a meeting this morning and the results really paid off. Sometimes it's better not to talk too much, but to go out and play."

Sergei Kostitsyn provided the lone offense for the Canadiens, who had won three of four coming in.

Cristobal Huet, who had been 5-0-1 in his last six starts, took the loss by allowing four goals on 28 shots in two periods of work. Jaroslav Halak finished the game by halting all 13 shots he faced.

Drury and Marcel Hossa worked a give-and-go, finished by Drury on a backhander, to put the Rangers up a goal just 3:17 into the game. Straka then stretched the lead to 2-0 at 13:20.

The Rangers gained a three-goal edge at the 5:51 mark of the second on Prucha's tip-in. Initially, the goal was waived of because the puck came out of the cage so quickly, and play was allowed to resume for almost a minute before a replay was requested.

A brief review revealed the puck hit the top left corner of the net between the left post and crossbar, and Prucha was credited with his fifth of the year.

It was 4-0 when Dawes netted his sixth of the season off a feed from Brandon Dubinsky only 22 seconds before the second intermission.

Halak entered to start the third period, but the Rangers continued to press offensively, taking nine of the first 10 shots.

Montreal did get on the board, though, at 7:10, as Andrei Kostitsyn fired from the right circle to the left side of the crease for a redirection by his brother Sergei.

New York allowed only five shots on Lundqvist in the final 20 minutes. The Swedish netminder was flawless on the remaining chances to pick up the win and erase the bitter memory of Thursday's 6-2 home loss to the Flyers.

"We knew that this was a desperate team, that got embarrassed the last game at home," said Habs forward Mike Komisarek. "They were going to come out like Boston did, and we responded in the Boston game, but waited to take the game to the Rangers and got beat."
