NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Los Angeles

Final Score: Dallas 3 - Los Angeles 4

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Patrick O'Sullivan scored the deciding goal in the shootout, giving the Los Angeles Kings a 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars at Staples Center.

Anze Kopitar scored on the first attempt of the shootout with a quick backhander, but no one scored for either team until the final shot in the third round. Antti Miettinen barely beat Jason LaBarbera with his five-hole shot that squeezed through, and was upheld on review.

In the fourth round, O'Sullivan ripped the disc over Marty Turco's blocker, and LaBarbera turned away Mike Ribeiro's shot to preserve the win.

"Marty is different from most goaltenders during shootouts, in that he usually plays on the side of the net, and then reacts," O'Sullivan said. "So I decided to go with my best move and pick my corner."

LaBarbera finished with 23 saves for Los Angeles, which has won two in a row and finished its six-game homestand with a 3-3 mark. Kopitar, Derek Armstrong, and Alexander Frolov scored a goal apiece for the Kings.

Matt Niskanen, Jeff Halpern, and Loui Eriksson scored goals for the Stars, who continued their recent struggles. Dallas has lost two in a row and six of eight. Turco stopped 26 shots in defeat.

Dallas opened the game with two quick goals, the first from Halpern on a 5- on-3 advantage. Eriksson sent a pass from the low left circle across the crease to Halpern for a one-timer, just 3:20 into the game.

Sixteen seconds later, Eriksson notched a goal of his own after controlling a rebound to the right of the net, skating around back, and depositing the puck into an open goal for a 2-0 Stars lead.

But shortly after the Dallas outburst, the Kings answered with a pair of goals, also in quick succession. At the 9:06 mark, O'Sullivan raced down the left boards, and sent a centering pass to Frolov for a one-timer past Turco. Just 1:07 later, Armstrong tied the game on a one-timer.

Each team had 12 shots on goal in the first period, but cooled off in the second, when each had just six. Kopitar had the only goal as the club skated on the man- advantage, giving the Kings their third straight tally to take the 3-2 lead.

Robert Blake blasted an off-target shot from the point, which would have sailed wide left had the puck not hit Kopitar in the leg and slid under Turco's pads with 5:45 left in the stanza.

"It should not have gone to overtime," Turco said. "On their third goal, their guy interfered with me. Maybe it should have been a penalty, but it should not have been a goal."

The Stars, however, tied up the game on another 5-on-3. With Blake already in the box, Brad Stuart joined him on a delay-of-game penalty after slapping the puck out of the air and away from his own goal, while the disc was about five feet above his head.

It took the Stars 27 seconds to score, as a shot from above the left circle was deflected by Niskanen and went over LaBarbera's shoulder at the 7:23 mark.
