NHL Game Summary - Minnesota at Chicago

Final Score: Minnesota 5 - Chicago 2

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Marian Gaborik scored a pair of goals to help the Minnesota Wild hand the Chicago Blackhawks their eighth straight loss with a 5-2 win at the United Center.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Mark Parrish and Matt Foy also lit the lamp for Minnesota, which wrapped up a four-game road trip with a 2-2-0 record. Eric Belanger added two helpers and Josh Harding stopped 41-of-43 shots to earn the win.

"You can't say enough about our team after beating two quality opponents at the end of this road trip," said Harding. "The 'Hawks were crashing and banging right at the start, fortunately, we withstood the storm."

Brent Sopel and Martin Havlat scored, and Nikolai Khabibulin allowed four goals on 15 shots for the Blackhawks, who haven't lost eight in a row since a 10-game slide from January 4-26 of last season.

"It's frustrating," said Sopel, commenting about the streak. "We started out great tonight, but then we made a couple mistakes and they came out with two goals. We just have to keep battling."

A costly turnover by Minnesota's Brent Burns led to Chicago scoring the first goal of the game. Burns tried to force a pass up the middle of the ice, but Sopel intercepted the puck at the blue line. Sopel, who missed the previous seven games with a broken finger, skated between the circles and roofed the puck over the blocker of Harding at 3:49 of the first.

The Wild knotted the score at one less than three minutes later on Foy's wraparound goal. Foy stuffed the puck between the legs of Khabibulin, who failed to get his stick down on the ice, exposing the five hole.

Minnesota was outshot 16-6 in the middle stanza, but netted three goals to build a 4-1 cushion.

Eight minutes into the second period, Rene Bourque believed he had given the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal. The officials ruled that Bourque did score, but after a lengthy video review, the tally was waved off. The replay showed that Minnesota defenseman Kurtis Foster swiped the puck away before it completely crossed the goal line.

Gaborik buried a snap shot from the middle of the left circle over the glove of Khabibulin just past the midway point of the second to put the Wild ahead 2-1.

Then, while up a man, Bouchard fired a slap shot labeled for the far corner to extend the Wild's advantage to 3-1 with 6:44 remaining in the middle frame.

Minnesota's lead grew to 4-1 when Parrish one-timed a feed from Belanger at the top of the right circle past the blocker of Khabibulin with one minute to play in the second.

Chicago was relentless in the third, firing 20 shots in the direction of Harding, but the Minnesota netminder was strong between the pipes, making 19 saves.

With the Blackhawks enjoying a two-man advantage, Havlat one-timed a feed from Robert Lang behind Harding at the 1:11 mark of the third.

Gaborik iced the win with an empty-net marker in the late stages of the game.
