NHL Game Summary - Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay

Final Score: Pittsburgh 4 - Tampa Bay 1

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Jordan Staal posted two goals and an assist, as the Pittsburgh Penguins extended their winning streak to eight games with a 4-1 triumph over the Tampa Bay Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum.

Petr Sykora collected three assists and Ryan Malone chipped in a goal and assist for the Penguins, who haven't lost a game since a 4-2 setback against the Islanders on December 21. Ty Conklin earned his ninth straight win by turning aside 35 shots.

"What do you say?" said Pens defenseman Darryl Sydor on Conklin's hot streak. "You don't want to say too much, but he's been playing wel, moving the puck, he's been making the stops when we needed him and he's given us the opportunity to win."

Pittsburgh snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Lighting, recording its first victory since a 3-2 decision in Tampa on January 17, 2003.

Paul Ranger scored the only goal and Karri Ramo made 25 saves for Tampa Bay, which has lost eight of its last nine contests (1-6-2).

After a scoreless opening period, Tampa Bay continued to press and came up with the first goal of the game at the 4:11 mark of the second.

Conklin made a great save on Ranger, but the Lightning defenseman collected the rebound and backhanded it past the fallen netminder.

Staal scored a pair of goals in a 2:22 span to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead.

First, while on the power play, Sykora ripped a slap shot from the right circle that was redirected by Staal just inside the far post with 7:49 remaining.

Staal then collected a rebound at the goal line, kicked the puck to his stick and tucked it between the legs of Ramo, who exposed the five-hole in his attempt to poke check the puck.

The Penguins' lead grew to 3-1 with 2:39 to play in regulation. Sykora broke his stick in the act of shooting, but the puck deflected off Staal's skate right to the front of the net, where Malone jammed it home.

Evgeni Malkin sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the waning seconds.

"We had chances, we got opportunities on the power play, we just didn't get it done and I think that was the difference," said Bolts forward Martin St. Louis. "It's tough to win in this league if you get beat on special teams."
